If DSO can do it than Mayer, Oteil and Jeff certainly should do it if they want
Plus Billy Strings and Joe Russo and you’ve definitely got something.

They're founding members.
It's a no brainer that they would continue.
I'm glad they will so the music will continue after
I'm dead and gone.

I agree. All kidding aside……let the music play on and on and on and on for the young and not yet born.

Mayer
Oteil
Chimenti
Russo
Hamilton

Add whoever else to that mix in 2026, I’d pay well to see that. Grateful Dead music should (and will) be played forever and some will be better than others at carrying the torch.

Comparing the Glen Miller orchestra to the GD is apples and oranges
The Glen Miller orchestra was a group of highly talented trained musicians playing perfectly to written sheet music. The grateful dead has NEVER been that. The GD was a free spirited improvisational psychedelic band lead by one individual's unique guitar playing.
This has been the problem with every single dead cover band since jerry died except for Ratdog. They have all been cover bands and imitators trying to sound like Jerry.
Ratdog was the one exception. They actually tried new musical ideas with the music. It is sad Weir abandoned them for the d&c cover band but money is money.
It is more like the starship comparison maybe when it sadly happens we will get a new "we built this city"

As long as Hamilton doesn't sing

I want somebody to show me where it says that John-Boy owns the D&C name.
We will understand it better bye and bye.

My understanding is that D&C is a partnership between Bob, Billy, Mickey and John.

GDP owns the trademark to Dead & Company. I don’t care enough to look into more than that, but it’s not hard to find info on business entities

The GD was a free spirited improvisational psychedelic band lead by one individual's unique guitar playing.
Well, kinda; most of the songs were a Garcia/Hunter collaboration so we can't forget Hunter. Weir and Barlow wrote a bunch of the Dead's great songs. Although the JGB was great in it's own right, Jerry was not the GD without the rest of the band. I can't call Deadco a 'cover band' with three original members, although it is going in that direction. For me, Meyer is NOT 'covering' Jerry, the songs have life all on their own, they are beautiful things and I find Meyer caring deeply for them and examining them and adding his own unique twists. I'm all for 'it's not the GD' but maybe it's a seed from the mother plant. The question for me is, are there several muses in Grateful Dead Music that are closely related to Jerry's? Was Jerry's muse really owned by Jerry or did it visit him?
