Anyone here had patellar tendon surgery?

Post by zimmy jr » Thu Sep 16, 2021 11:28 am

Hello friends. I managed to rupture my right patellar tendon 2 Sundays ago. The tendon sheered completely off the kneecap. Thankfully they were able to arrange urgent surgery that Friday. They sent me home w/oxy, but I've been able to manage the pain with advil & Tylenol. Sleep's been a tricky thing. We're meeting with surgeon Monday to confirm surgery went as expected & lay out a rehab/pt plan. I've been doing what you're not supposed to do & researching stuff online. Sounds like the PT is going to be hellish. Just wanted to know if anyone went through it & how their rehab went. Being 62 yo & 35 pounds overweight is not in my favor, I reckon. Thanks, everybody! ✌😍

Not patellar but ACL with a patellar graft.

Listen to the doc and the PT. Follow their instructions and you’ll be fine.

Injury and recovery are no fun. It can also be an opportunity to start a new hobby or learn a new skill.

Just like in life, avoid the things that bring you down and focus on what fills you up.

You’ll be good as new. Let me know if you need anything.

You may be down but you’re not out.

Ice deceases the swelling. Less swelling equals less pain. Elevation to decrease the swelling. Pain medication before the pain is intense. It’s easier to treat pain when less than more ( duh). Take medication before PT. Ambulate early and often. Good luck.
