The fact he made it to 81 is a miracle.

Re: RIP David Crosby
Crosby’s last interview with Variety was a tearful, touching testimonial to Jerry Garcia, on the 25th anniversary of the Grateful Dead guitarist’s death, published in August 2020. “Of all of the people that I can think of that I’ve really loved as musicians — and then there are some stunners in there that I miss; I miss (Jimi) Hendrix, I miss Janis (Joplin), I miss my friend Cass (Elliott), I miss a lot of people that I lost — yeah, I probably miss him the most,” Crosby said. “If I had had to pick somebody to represent musicians to the world and to the universe, I would have picked him. He cared about the right things. … He did not play music for money. You can start your list of things about Jerry Garcia with that: he wasn’t there for the money. He didn’t give a shit. He was there chasing the notes. He wanted the music — really, really badly. He would go to great lengths; he would suffer indignities [laughs] to get to the point where he could make some music.”
We will understand it better bye and bye.
Re: RIP David Crosby
a sad day
I got to see CSN a handful of times over the years
I saw David once as a solo act - he opened 12/31/86 at the Oakland Auditorium
he had just been released from prison, and he says prison is what got him off of coke
I was just beginning to get off for the night and he began to drone on and on about
not doing drugs anymore
- I bailed on his set and went downstairs to buy a drink
the most interesting David show I saw was David and Graham at the Cathedral of St John the Devine
for a benefit of some sort - really interesting setting that night
Rock on David and keep singing sweetly

Such a great talent - RIP David
Was lucky enough to see CSN&Y twice in 1974 and CSN multiple times in the ‘80’s. You cannot beat their harmonies and the songs were so well written!

Re: RIP David Crosby
So, one afternoon many years ago when I was living in Santa Barbara, I had just finished walking my dog in Shoreline Park and was in my truck on my way back home. I pulled up to an intersection down by the beach and was waiting for the light to change. Not a busy intersection, just sitting there quietly. It was one of those incredibly warm, beautiful Santa Barbara afternoons, so I had my window down. There was a car next to me in the left turn lane and the passenger had his window down, too. I hear him talking to the driver and recognized his voice immediately as my friend Dave. So, I say, without looking, "Hey, Dave." He says back, "Hey, man". Then I look over and realize it's Crosby. Not a friend of mine, but that distinctive voice made my brain tell me that it was "my friend Dave". So, now I realize my mistake, and I think I should probably apologize for interrupting his conversation with the driver in his car (especially since I think they may have been having an argument). But just then the light turned and off they went.
So, as I drove away all I could think about was that David Crosby thinks I'm an asshole. I always hoped I'd run into him again so that I could apologize. Now, it's too late.
RIP David

Yipes
Saw him a bunch of times including the day Nixon resigned. Lots of CSN
Could harmonize like an angel - thanks for teaching the Dead to do that.
Amazed in a way that he made it to 81. Hard life for quite a stretch.

In a recent interview, actually could be up to 5 years ago now on an intermission for Dead and Company I think it was... he talked about how he never taught the Dead to harmonize nor taught them anything. I guess it's possible he didn't remember or just didn't want to take credit for whatever reason.

Re: RIP David Crosby
If you follow him on Twitter, he's been saying he's gonna die soon for about 3 years. Very matter of fact about it, at least in print. Furiously made albums over the past 2 years, trying to do everything before his ride came.
And to think it's on Janis and Owsley's birthday...
