I just disconnected my casette deck
I pitched all my casettes a couple years back. My stereo cabinet is actually an antique armoire that my wife also uses for storing some of her stuff. So she was like, if you don't really use that casette player anymore, I could use the space for something else. Still works fine, guess I'll give it to Goodwill.
We will understand it better bye and bye.

Goodwill may be able to get some decent coin for it since cassettes are making a comeback.

I have a Nakamichi Deck #1 which I still use quite a bit and works great. I recorded shows from '81 to '92 and still play my masters on it. I donated other crappy sounding tapes trying to make space.

What to do with a horribly sounding 8th gen audience tape of a mediocre Grateful Dead show from Giants Stadium from 1994? But it has ok artwork from a female friend from that era?
The Deadheads gather at the rim of the volcano to dance and sing joyful songs in honor of their fallen hero.

I don't even know you any more.
Re: I just disconnected my casette deck
I broke out my old nak, but I don’t have any tapes left unfortunately
Re: I just disconnected my casette deck
If you don't use it and it's where the space could be used for anything else, why not move it?
If that tape artwork means anything to you keep the tape. You don't need to play the tape everyday, find another recording on archive to listen to and just hold on to the tape.pennsylvaniapete wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 3:59 pmWhat to do with a horribly sounding 8th gen audience tape of a mediocre Grateful Dead show from Giants Stadium from 1994? Re: I just disconnected my casette deck
Glad to see another Cassette Deck 1 user. I've had mine for about 2 years now and it's fantastic. I love the manual azimuth control. Only a handful of Naks have the manual adjust which is one of the reasons I grabbed the CD1. Other reason is it's one of the last good Naks made. I get a kick out of tapers who insist on having a Dragon or CR7. Why? They're not recording on them. The Dragon does have auto azimuth which is cool, but for $4000 for a good one.DrivinThatTrain wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 2:32 pmGoodwill may be able to get some decent coin for it since cassettes are making a comeback.

My D5 is also in my closet. All my cassettes are boxed up in the basement. Both have not seen the light of day for years. Not sure what I am going to do with them. My Nak also sits with my stereo system unused.

Re: I just disconnected my casette deck
It broke my heart to do but now time has healed that break. Same with my cd deck. I've gone digital. I'm ashamed of myself, and I lament it, but this is the way of the world.

I have seen them for sale on ebay and for quite a few bucks.

I put my non working D5 on eBay a few years ago with a staring bid of 9.99. It sold for $400.hockeygame3 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 10:09 amAnd the funny thing is I can't part with ittaperchuck wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 9:47 amhockeygame3 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:36 pmMy D5 has been in my closet for almost 26 years

I’ve got a cassette player in my truck and actually still have about 15 tapes.

I actually have 3 cassettes left. Two Adrian Belew studio albums and a Stiff Records compilation that I played the shit out of when it was new.
We will understand it better bye and bye.

That’s awesome- I have a non-working D6 - wonder what I can get for that. I’ve never sold through EBay, but now that I’m retired I should learn how to do it.ts wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 10:32 amI put my non working D5 on eBay a few years ago with a staring bid of 9.99. i still listen to cassettes every now and then. bought a fully restored Nak Dragon a few years ago and use it to make sure it works. i have about 1200 or so tapes still and bought some off of ebay. i check from time to time and found a few old tapers that were selling their collections so got some nice masters.
