12/15/86 ~ anyone here in the room that night?

Post by zimmy jr » Tue Sep 03, 2024 11:14 am

A matrix showed up in my feed today. The love & energy of the crowd is palpable, esp during Touch & Candyman.

Yes
I was in the room for that run and then two weeks later for the NYE run as well

It was really weird in the building that 1st night -
Jerry had been playing a little both in Mill Valley and he did a JGB for Halloween
so most of us didn't know what to expect (the big crowd that was Grateful Dead)

A chair was set on stage for him but I don't recall him using it
:-k maybe he leaned on it once or twice because
we had tons of jokes going 'round that all they had to do
was just wheel Jerry out an prop him up

those were my first shows on the West Coast
23 years old and by then I had been to about 40-50 shows
I was ready to go "out West" to see the dead
but it seemed VERY important to me to see "my thing" after
the recovery... to me :-k His voice was never the same as before
the coma... much more mature sounding

...I'd trade all my tomorrows for one single yesterday...

Was not really sure what to expect would anything be different?

In about 20 seconds you got the answer - Jerry was back

I was living in Santa Barbara in the summer of 86. We had our whole bay area crew down for the Ventura gigs when we go the radio message that morning.

Was back in the bay by fall. Actually caught one of the Stone gigs in October, which was spooky atr first but by the end it was like old home week. Halloween at the Kaiser we knew we were back, and then the Dead in December. WOW.

Found some youtube video.

Thanks for reminding me.

I was there. It was a reminder how precious life is
Didn’t Jerry come back to performing with JGB band prior to this Grateful Dead show ?
I remember being there at the Stone in SF at a JGB show after he recovered and every one crying as he came out as he started to sing…big ole burely guys weepin it was very touching
I think he opened with How Sweet It Is? Or something lovely like that song
Can any tapers help me out here please?
It was a tough ticket it was the middle of the night I was on LSD lying in bed w this guy listening to the radio in SF out on my Great Hwy apartment and the tickets were announced and we were so happy so we got up and went to tower record store and got in line. We were very lucky. We still are! Enjoy the day freaks
So many roads to soothe my soul!
xoxo

^^pretty sure that first show back with JGB he opened with Get Out Of My Life Woman which seemed an extraordinarily odd choice to come back with.

There were a number of JGB shows in the fall of 86 in the bay area. I hit one, I forget which.

Caught the nye run. Loved 12/27. Comes a time is great. Dancin > BMR is also cool. Bob killing it smokestack. Could have used a good lovin or sugar mag to close the set

Nice video

If you listen to the SBD, right before the encore, you can hear Billy say to Bob "Hey Weir, let's do playin". Too funny. Aside from that one, I did catch another to open a show on 7/2/89, but they didn't finish it until the next show on 7/4.
