Hurricane Helene

Post by Dad » Wed Sep 25, 2024 4:41 pm

Update from the NWS has Helene making landfall as a cat 4 and will still be a Cat 1 in Macon, GA. Rapid intensification seems certain.

Atlanta forecast for 5 to 10 inches of rain and 60 mph winds - bad combo for our big hardwoods.

Shout out to the Asheville and Tennessee doggies. Hell of a lot of water coming your way folks

Helene is moving freaking QUICKLY! Due to be 955 millibars at landfall and still 960-970 when it heads past Atlanta. She's going to be a real bitch. The good news, I guess, for any individual area is that she won't linger too long if she continues to the current pace. But she's also huge, so those rains are going to extend all over the eastern states.

And there's another one that may form right behind it that's currently tracking a Bay St Lous/Gulfport-ish landfall late on October 6.

Season is heating up a bit late, but the peak is definitely here.

We have really good seats for the Georgia vs Alabama game over in Tuscaloosa on Saturday night and hoping for no damage and a road trip

May want to just drive over a day early if you can extend your room for an extra night. Easier said than done in SEC land, I know.

Hope y’all come through w/o damage.

we are 40 minutes from Wilmington. supposed to get 3-4 inches so not bad except
for the 11 inches we had last week. ground is saturated so minor flooding ahead.
I started an environmental news site in 2008 and ran it until 2010. tried to spread the
word. global warming denial has our planet on the hot seat.

Thanks for checking in. From the very very few 'news' sites that i venture into these days, just thought that this mess was primarily hitting the panhandle. Didn't realize that severe flooding, in addition to recent rainfall, has been occurring in other places in the path and have been and are being hit. Best wishes and minimal damages, hopefully {{{a total miss}}}, to those in its path.

https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphi ... e#contents

This is going to be so bad for Apalachicola to Chassahowitzka as it makes landfall, for the heavily wooded areas of Florida and Georgia that the continued winds are going to roar through, and for some of the mountain communities that are going to see mass flooding and huge mud slides.

:(

Well that was like being fully dosed at a cop convention

Just leaving the Atlanta metro now. 42 hours of non stop rain. Foe Killer Creek runs along my property and it’s raging this morning.

Hoping everyone up in Western North Carolina is okay. Those folks are getting serious flash flooding
