Still hanging on

Post by Don McGurrin » Fri Sep 27, 2024 2:49 pm

Man, I cannot remember the last time I was here. Its good to see a few diehard folks still here keeping it alive. I got to thinking about this place as I was down the basement and found hundreds of shows on CD's. I remembered when people what were the best ones to get that would last the longest. Well it really does not matter now as they are about to go in the trash. I can stream anyone of them that I want to and they just take up space.

I have been trying to downsize wrt physical cds too as I have been sending a lot of my home grown cds to my younger brother who splits his time between his breaking bad cabin in NM & his summer uni-bomber cabin in southeast ID near Henry's Fork where the garage for his drift boat is bigger than his cabin there

He spends time @ ID cabin June 1 - Oct 1 & rest of year in NM...both places are off the grid but he has a small cd player - ghetto blaster & has been enjoying the random shows by numerous jam band artists that I have sent him so far

After getting the 1st batch of cds - he's like what's with all this alphabet gobbledee gook what with ARU, PLF, PLQ, CRB. WSP etc

Can let the tapes or CDs go.

i still buy official releases but no longer collect bootlegs on disk (or digital really).

just this month i bought (4) new official CDs:
- David Gilmour "Luck and Strange"
- David Gilmour "Live in Gdansk"
- America "Live at the Hollywood Bowl 1975"
- CSNY Live at the Fillmore East 1969" (pre-ordered)

I have gotten rid of all of my CDs and vinyl except for a few dozen that I purchased in Japan. Back in the day these "imports" had an extra track or special art. I never listen to them, most are available digitally, and they are taking up space but I can't seem to just get rid of them.

I threw out a bunch of VHS tapes recently, but I still have all my cassettes and CDs.

Wish I had some VHS action I threw out. It’s not all digitized.

“So Far” has been.

That was one of the few reasons I kept the VHS tape.

Hey, long time no see here, DM.

Got rid of my tapes more than 15 years ago. Put them out on my stoop when I lived in NYC and some grateful passerby scooped them up.

Still have some CDs, but rarely listen to them.
