If anyone has that picture from norfolk ratdog where Tom is playing a guitar, bendicon is passed out in a chair and I am laying down on the bed, please post it or send it to me. It's the one people labeled as very gay, ha.

I'm very sad to hear this. I'm not sure if we ever met in person, but we traded ebooks 2 weeks ago. Even in email his very kind demeanor came across. My condolences to all who knew him. RIP Tom.

I am at a loss for words.
The air within has been drained.

To me
Tom was a child
I had been with him at several shows in the Baltimore/DC area
He was young and full of energy
He was seeking all that was still unsung

This is a sad day. I knew something was wrong when I saw the black edging on the board

We all here have dealt with demons and the dark side it resides in.
The question is why the opiates and not the psychedelics?
We all know the allure
I know I'm not one to say "see what it does!"
Why have I been spared when this young man, who had finished his education
Was learning to play
Had all of his life ahead of him

Why?

The answers are so empty and shallow..
I'm tired of seeing our futures in our songs

Patience runs out on the junkie
The dark side hires another soul
Did he steal his fate or earn it
Was he force-fed, did he learn it
Whatever happened to his precious self control

His heart was kind and open
It's now closed and we are left behind wondering yet again....

Rest well dear Tom
Your memory is with us
We are burying too many of our friends
Maybe you will teach us
Yet again that life may be sweeter for this
I don't know
See how it feels in the end

:( :(
Till They Put Me Under
It's Festival Time

I'm very sorry to hear of this.
He seemed a good kid.

It was always heartening to see someone his age have an affection and curiosity for (for lack of a better word) Americana music.

Not having met him (although we interacted some), I would never have expected this.
It's a cruel parade, folks.

Never met him. But interacted with him here a lot. Sent him some shows. He was cool.
And he was a great guitar player too. It will take a while to process this. Way too young. :(

he really wanted to play with my buddies band at one f their 8x10 shows and i probably could have made that happen for him if i wasnt such fucking prick. at my 30th birthday party he got up and played a set in between jesters sets and i hurried him off the stage so the band could play again. i have no idea why he would even want to be friends with me after the way i treated him all these years. truth be told i loved tom like a brother but we just always fought. he came over my place last weekend and just wanted to chill for a bit with me and joey. joey only saw him briefly and had to go but i hung with him for like an hour. we smoked a fat blunt, listened to phish and talked about how we were def doing MPP and delfest.....guess not

I wrote this song a couple months ago. Its title, "Transition Song" has to do with the transitional period everything is in since the end of Summer. There's just been so much going on in my own life, as well as all around and in every community. Transition isn't always bad though.

I just recorded this for Tom/WeirEverywhere - a guy I, like many here, did not get a chance to meet/kick it on the lot, but interacted with him here.

This is not in any way to promote myself as I don't claim to be anything. I don't generally record myself at all. This video/post is for Tom and please free to share it if you think it will help some.

Reading this thread teared/tears me up and I just want to send out as much positive energy as I can to those affected.

Lyrics:

Rising with the Sun too bright to even see,
all the light and love ever surrounding me.
When will my eyes open wide?
When will I face the feelings I've buried deep down inside?

Sailing by the moon across the waters deep,
direction lost, the captain bailed, but still we're out at sea.
Wind howls all through the night.
Rain starts pouring, the lightening strikes,
the sailor's filled with fright.

Standing still, nowhere to turn.
Out on an island, all bridges burned.
What'll you do when you find yourself here?
Let me tell you friend the answer's quite clear:

Open your heart and let love pour in.
Open your mind and search within.
The answer you seek lies in front of you.
Love one another and we can all get through.

So rise up with the Sun for all the world to see,
your lovelight shining through the dark so naturally.
Keep your heart open wide.
Love for all is the only way this world will survive.

Rest in peace and safe travels on your next journey brother

"a friend told me I'd find you there"

I'm really moved to sorrow by this news. Thank you to all who posted pictures and videos, memories, etc.

I forgot who posted on page 2 "I love you all." I agree - even having not met most of you in person, years on here forge relationships and its sad to read news like this.

I have a very brief thing to say about this.

I've seen you beating yourself up in these last pages... the mea culpa of those that are left behind... Let me offer you this...

Speaking from the standpoint of someone intimately associated with this particular poison, i can tell you right now, you could have juggled vic's and oxy's naked in the rain to get him to stop and it would not have worked. I'm not being lighthearted... i'm using an anaolgy that I have witnessed personally.. (what will it take to get you to stop... do i have to...)

In his time, not in yours.

Your quote above said it all. If you were brothers then you fought the hardest, because it's the strongest bond that can withstand the hardest blows.

Know he had his reasons, know you were not a factor and know that this has nothing to do with you.

Know that your friendship was most certainly cherished and he passed knowing you and others loved him. Was this enough? It never is until the poison is gone.

In the now... take comfort in that you knew him, and don't dishonor his vibrant life by tethering him to your undeserved guilt. You did nothing wrong, and nothing you could have done differently would have changed anything. that is the fact. It will take awhile to accept that, but it is the fact.

If you need anything... PM me. I'm kinda non responsive today... but i'll be on in full force this evening. (west coast time).

Blessings, and PEACE to you. To Tom. To us all.
Knock it back, man, You can't sip this stuff at eight in the morning. That's Happy Hour shit.

steelinfaces,

I don't post a lot here, but just wanted to echo what people are saying. This isn't your fault. You can't let it be your fault. It may be obvious in hindsight what was going on, but that doesn't mean it was obvious at the time. Most of us party in some capacity and to varying degrees. I'm sure a lot of us have lost very close friends/family in a similar way. It's tough, but you can't carry the weight of someone else's burden, just like they can't carry yours. You have to think of it as an accident like a car crash or any other random way to check out, because that's what it usually is -- a big mistake.

Best of luck with the next few months. Just remember it was an accident. It helps.
