RIP Gloria Jones
Gloria Jones passed away yesterday, Friday February 1st 2019.
Gloria was one of the singers in the Jerry Garcia Band, joining in September 1984, replacing DeeDee Dickerson, to sing alongside Jacklyn LaBranch, and continued with the band until Jerry Garcia‘s death in 1995
Their beautifully soulful gospel style of singing supported Garcia’s vocals and guitar, Melvin Seals keyboards, David Kemper‘s drums and John Kahn‘s bass lines, and are deeply etched into the hearts of so many of us.
Gloria and Jackie have made a few guest appearances in recent years, singing in a few Jerry Garcia tributes, alongside original JGB member Melvin Seals, as well as more recent players Pete Lavezzoli , JP Mclean, Stu Allen, and Dead and Company’s Otiel Burbridge. Fans were elated to get to once again hear their angelic voices on these beloved songs.

This is really sad. She wasn’t just a great singer, but she also seemed to really love watching us heads dance and bathe in Jerry Love. She was particularly interactive with the crowd during Shining Star at my what would become my last last JGB show in Hampton. She always brought warm and positive energy to go with her wonderful voice.
Goodbye and THANK YOU Gloria!!

Gloria during those early 90’s JGB tours was magical for me. Shining Star indeed.
only the waters and cooler were fronted - he brought his own ice

Special indeed!! Especially waiting for those long Jerry jams to end to get back to business. They made the JGB sound so sweet. Peace in Heaven

Sad news. I bet she lived an interesting life. Rest easy. Thanks for the music!
She bears it away with the love that the river has taught her.

More than any other venue in our world, The Warfield is the most sacred. JGB was the “house band” and it’s the place we shared the stage most often. Gloria, Jackie, Jerry and I played here 80 times with one another!!
In thinking about the best way to pay tribute to Gloria, it seemed fitting for us to return to our home...
Please join us at The Warfield on Saturday, May 4th, along with some of Gloria’s closest friends Jacklyn LaBranch, Shirley Starks, Cheryl Rucker and some special guests!
Plus an opening set with David Nelson’s Almost Acoustic feat. Eric & Susie Thompson.
Tickets go on sale to the general public this Friday, Feb. 15th at 10am PST.

Damn. Melvin didn’t mention John. He was there from day 1.

Long before Junie, she wrote Skinnybones, which is at least 30 years old, but still in print.
I read it in second grade 30 years ago and remember the plot like it was yesterday.
