For me with Hunter, its the line in Uncle John's Band: Are you kind?

That I strive to be able to answer unequivocally YES I AM..or at least I certainly try to be...

KIND,,,every day,,,every way possible

RIP
AMEN BROTHER! :clap :clap :clap

Hunters lyrics took the Grateful Dead from the earth to the stars
I've always wondered if anyone has ever been "abducted by aliens", it could've been Hunter. It's almost as if he's allowed himself to be a "vessel" for some ancient source:

Dark star crashes, pouring its light into ashes.
Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis.

It was a wild ride for me yesterday to say the least. For the past three years or so, I lay awake with worry and dread about where the world is headed and frustrated as shit with our "leaders", yet when the day finally arrived that it looked like we might be rounding a corner for the better, I simply couldn't even think about it. After learning about RH, it was like I was run over by a freight train for most of the day.

^ about "largest family", but also thinking about the circle that invariably keeps getting smaller ....

"Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence."

not just the words.. but the intonations.. the emphasis... so unlike the normal cadence of speech... normally, one would say... Dark star crashes, pouring its LIGHT into ashes... emphasis on light.. but in the way this is structured, with the emphasis on ITS, you are returned immediately back to the imagry of the Dark Star and what actions are happening there... His words made you loop back and again into itself, returning you to what he wanted you to understand, and when you got there, found that there were a hundred ways to hold its meaning in your hand and interpret it...

its literally the stuff of hours and days and years of our lives, spent in deep discussion huddled together before and after shows and in between tours, communing together, spinning dyes, creating art, talk storying... about what these words and their delicate, purposeful placement mean to us... and what they mean to you...

Its caused us to see the connections in us all, despite our differences... Shall WE go.. YOU and i while we CAN?

God bless i miss what we've just lost. Thank goodness we have what he left for us.
Knock it back, man, You can't sip this stuff at eight in the morning. That's Happy Hour shit.

How do you catch the wind
Robert hunter did it again and again
And found a way to transcribe, the words written in the sky
How many ways can we relate to, the rhythms passed on to the ages
In each the seed of wisdom planted
The rains of life to work their magic
The song it sleeps, for now unanswered
The future grows with added chapters
And secrets kept for ever after
Beauty laid bare by the masters
Resonating with the masses
The breath of life shared as it passes
"The Moment May be Temporary, but the Memory is Forever"

By far my favorite Hunter show: https://archive.org/details/rh1978-07-2 ... d2t14.flac I was not there but I wore the tape out and can anticipate every nuance of this show when I play it. Check out the insane rap during China Cat/Promontory Rider

RIP

Such fond memories of him and the songs that have and will always fill the air. I first saw him live at Lisner Auditorium in '97 I think; just him and his guitar for a couple hours. What a treat. Really enjoyed his performances in between sets of Other Ones shows in like '02 as well. Boston in particular comes to mind.

Thanks for that link Terrapin710. That's a great find!

Hunter, I never knew you
I feel your absence though
You never knew me but maybe you did
And now you definitely do
I'm sorry that I do feel sad about your passing
...there's a silver ocean, silver clouds on a silver sea
bird on the horizon, silver wingin' back to me...

Hunter we all have to go but how did we spend our time. A kind Gentleman who put words in peoples mouths that touched hearts around the world. That would be more than enough for any of us. You went beyond by your keeping open the paths for fans to communicate with Dead central and the other forums to talk through. Always ready to talk to people who reached out sincerely. Sharing tunes with the appreciative. Sad to hear about your medical issues. As a fan who didn't really know you. Except through your words in the songs that moved me. My fantasy was a long happy heathy life was your just reward. Such is life. Say hey to fallen brothers. See you again, Sir.
Inspiration move me brightly / Light my heart with sense and color /
Hold away despair / More than this I will not ask / Faced with mysteries dark and vast.............

In the mid-70s, not long after I switched coasts, Hunter and his backup band Roadhog played several nights at this little club on Haight called the Shady Grove. You could still smoke back then and I still did. At some point, Hunter came down off the low stage while the band kept playing. Hunter ended up dancing with his wife right next to me and my ex and he bummed one of my Luckies off me and stuck it one the end of an Aqua Filter! Good times.
We will understand it better bye and bye.
