If i could ask a serious question.
If i could ask a serious question.
I don't mean to tread where I shouldn't but i'm on a soul search.
When getting clean what did you find to fill the void that getting high, drunk etc gave you?

Well, they're goin ruin the air we breathe, Lord have mercy
They're gonna ruin us all, by and by
I'm telling all you beware, I don't think they really care, I think they just sit up there,
AND JUST GET HIGH!!!

any and everything that interests you. I've never been without a hobby, but I find that when I am sober, I really become completely enveloped in my hobbies excelling in them often enough.
some of my past and current hobbies include, birdwatching, lepidopterology, yoga, meditation, aikido, bonsai, playing the mandolin, fishing, camping, hiking, running, reading, writing, studying (when I went back and finished my BS and MS), disc golf, snowboarding, to name a few. And now as a parent of two elementary aged kids, I've found/rediscovered puzzles, legos, ping pong, drawing, building forts, learning to identify any and everything in nature, wild foods, etc...
celebrat life!

Thanks Brother. The question points to your answer. Most things I've loved to do, which mostly include playing music and outdoor activities, included some sort of external "motivator".cstar wrote:any and everything that interests you. When I open my valve I have a hard time slowing it down. I want to learn to do that.

MEETINGS.
When I began the new adventure of a clean and sober life style, I obsessed with attending meetings. I absorbed everything that was shared and discarded a lot of trash.
Today, I have 11 years, 8 months 12 days of sobriety behind me....

Re: If i could ask a serious question.
Maybe this post is a day late and a dolla' short, but speaking from experience (as many here do...) You just have to do. Wake up and do make a decision to be sober. Put your two feet on the floor and do move in a forward positive motion. Do the things you always said you'd do. You'll appreciate the rewarding feeling afterward. I'm fresh to sober thinking, and all ready I feel the light.
Good luck! Its a journey..... ....

Tell me it was prophesied
And surely had to be
Don't tell how you manage it
It's no concern to me
Tell me it was magic
That's the only thing to do
Tell me it was magic
'Cause it might as well be true...

Re: If i could ask a serious question.
I've been one substance free for a few months and another going on 6 weeks or so. It was necessary for a job that would change my family's life so I'm a little bit proud I got past that hurdle. To be honest I'm still not where I want to be with booze and would stop that in a minute if I thought I could still calm down my smoking and not affect my employment.
I'm sure you all have gone through way more than me and I can't effectively convey my gratitude for the responses. One day at a time.

My problem was with booze and putting innocent people in harms way because of it. I thank God for snapping me out of that 25+ year spiral.
Sounds like your on the correct path Zip.
