Shesterkin and Panarin are benefiting from the extended break
good
now
cancel the participation in the Olympic games and adjust the schedules so some teams don't have to play 20+ games in 30 days down the stretch and build in our own cushion to absorb covid postponements

Re: New York Rangers 2021/22
What is the latest on the Evander Kane situation, following more allegations of COVID protocol violations?
Chris Johnston: It’s not exactly limbo but I would say that Kane has put things on hold in terms of trying to make a decision and narrowing down his teams. It was going to take a couple of days, out of respect for those teams, while the NHL conducts investigations into the allegations from his time in the American Hockey League.
There’s nothing that says these NHL teams couldn’t sign him. He could sign a new deal today. But I think out of respect for those teams wanting to see if he’s going to face any further suspension or punishment stemming from the allegations, he is going to wait it out, check his list twice as it sounds like he’s down to three teams, and make a decision once the NHL wraps up that investigation.
Pierre LeBrun: In the meantime for the San Jose Sharks, where does this leave their salary cap, potentially, in terms of extra space? We’ll have to see where the dust clears, in terms of the NHLPA grievance on the Kane matter, and whether the Sharks are completely off the hook from his $7 million cap hit for the next three and a half years. Or, whether there’s a settlement and they’ll owe some money with a smaller cap hit, we’ll see.
Certainly, there may be some room here for the Sharks to make an extension offer for their top centre Tomas Hertl who is a UFA at the end of the season. There were talks last summer and Hertl’s camp, led by Newport Sports, said that the Sharks were interested in talking extension at the time. But now that there might be more cap room, I expect the Sharks to circle back over the next month here and perhaps make an offer to Hertl.
If that does not lead to an extension, the trade deadline is March 21 and there may not be a bigger name on the Trade Bait Board than Tomas Hertl if he is officially made available between now and March 21.
He has almost a 100 per cent no-trade clause. Only three teams are on his “yes” list. He has lots of control and one team to keep an eye on is the New York Rangers, who I think have him on their list.
Hertl would fit really well with this team

Re: New York Rangers 2021/22

he did drive Martin Biron into retirement one night
he's 28 years old
five hundred games in
he's a minus 4
tells me he does not play defense
if we were really close.... it might make sense for a short term bump
I'd pass
we're still building
we need to get our asses kicked in a playoff round to really find out what we need to be succesful
I'm willing to wait
we're built at the moment to be competitive and win just about any game any night
we need to find out where we are when our opponent scouts us and what they have that we need to beat

Re: New York Rangers 2021/22

nice win against the Maple Leafs

ok ok
2 of their top 4 defensemen were out
Matthews played
nice comeback from being down 2-0 and 3-1
maybe we're better than I think we are
the kids are starting to believe it
let's see what happens when we take on the candy canes tomorrow
(again
I feel we are built to win any game any night
I just don't know if we're built to win 4 of 7 four times in a row)

OMFG
we have the top goal scorer in the league?
I always thought Kreider was a solid 20 per year type of player
better ride his career year as far as we can
or
did he finally figure it out?

Re: New York Rangers 2021/22
More important for the New York Rangers, a veteran third-pair defenseman or a top-six right wing? -- @PTC2242
Right wing. That's been a need for the Rangers all season. They have five top-six forwards they feel comfortable with right now based on experience, production and positioning: centers Mika Zibanejad and Ryan Strome, left wings Chris Kreider and Artemi Panarin, and right wing Kaapo Kakko, who is week to week with an upper-body injury. Alexis Lafreniere prefers to play on the left side but has moved to the right to get into the top-six at times. It's been inconsistent, like his game. Same with Dryden Hunt, Barclay Goodrow and Filip Chytil. None has played well enough to stay in the top six. The Rangers ideally would like to stabilize it before the deadline.
I think they should target Stars forward Joe Pavelski, who is in the final season of a three-year, $21 million contract ($7 million AAV). It's unclear if Pavelski will be available, but if he is, he's the one I'd go after because he's a veteran goal-scorer with a right-handed shot who would upgrade the net-front presence on New York's second power-play unit. Fitting Pavelski under the NHL salary cap is not a concern; the Rangers have the space. They have two second-round picks in the 2022 NHL Draft and a glut of young and promising, yet still developing, defensemen including Nils Lundkvist, Matthew Robertson, Tarmo Reunanen and Zac Jones (I wouldn't trade rookie Braden Schneider). Each could be of interest to the Stars, especially if Klingberg's days in Dallas are numbered.

^^^
agreed
I think we could package a few picks and maybe Chytil (he is slow and while talented we may be seeing all he really is) - If I had to put in a kicker to get it (if we think we have a real shot to go deep in the tournament) maybe Kakko - have to give to get // Kakko has had issues of availability over his 3 plus seasons -- I would not offer Zac Jones - the sample size I've seen is small but he seems to have the goods and is learning - agree with Schnieder; he looks polished already (again... small sample size though)

Blowing a 2 goal lead again
(to a 2nd tier team to boot)
is not a good look
Georgiev is not the answer
a save percentage of .778% does not cut it at this level

Re: New York Rangers 2021/22
alright
Back to Work
let's get into the tournament as healthy as we can be
hate the new radio silence shit about player injuries
just WTF happened to Kakko?
is it a shoulder? wirist? hand? - they are talking another month which means he's had or
will have surgery? For what?
I know... he only just turned 21 last week
but
It's good to know as a fan just when he gets hit; what he's trying to protect
we all knew when Leetch broke one ankle and then the other
we knew when Ryan McDonagh got his shoulder crunched
and of course we still know exactly when....
