TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper took one question during his postgame media session. Without getting into specifics about whether Colorado had too many men on the ice, he suggested the Avalanche’s overtime goal shouldn’t have counted.

“This one is going to sting much more than others,” Cooper said Wednesday night after a 3-2 loss in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final. “It’s hard for me. It’s going to be hard for me to speak. I’m going to have to speak. I’ll speak with you tomorrow. You’re going to see what I mean when you see the winning goal. And my heart breaks for the players because we probably still should be playing. I’ll be available tomorrow.

“And just watch this team, what they’ve gone through and the battling that’s gone on. And we’re all in this together. Players, coaches, refs, everybody. I’ve been part of some heartbreaking losses and defeats to the teams that took us out and been with a group that just fights, fights and fights, and they fought their way to a third Stanley Cup final in a row.”

Kadri’s goal at 12:02 of overtime counted and the Avalanche took a 3-1 series lead, putting the Lightning’s three-peat bid is in deep trouble.

The NHL released a statement saying the penalty is a judgement call that can be made by the on-ice officials. Each of the four officials said they did not see a too many men on the ice situation on the winning play. The call is not subject to video review. :rant :rant

Tampa Bay is trying to become the first team since the New York Islanders won four championships in a row from 1980-83 to lift the Cup three straight seasons. Teams down 3-1 in the final have rebounded to win it all just once in 36 tries.

Tampa Bay had its franchise playoff-record eight-games winning streak at home end. The Lightning outscored opponents 33-13 over those eight wins.

Game 5 is Friday night at Colorado.

Too Many Men :rofl :rofl :rofl
(Nystrom is still offside)

I don't think it should be a reviewable play
it is judgment and - there's too many men on the ice 10 times a game

sometimes it's blatant and you can see the results
others; it's subtle (still too many) and it doesn't effect the play

Yes they had too many men
It was one guy at the bench not having stepped off yet and not in the play

play on

^^^ what I was more annoyed at last night was....
my local ABC station kept quitting the game in OT because its computer said
it should be running local news and a game show
the folks putting out the telecast let the screen go blank for 25-45 seconds at a stretch

if the blue shirts had been playing...... I'd have been out of my mind

I didn't get to see the goal until the NHL network was allowed to show it 10 minutes after the game ended

Luke Richardson will become the next head of the Chicago Blackhawks, TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun confirms.

LeBrun reports that Richardson has not signed a contract yet with the team, but it will get done.

Further to @frank_seravalli’s scoop here, I’m told Richardson hasn’t signed a contract yet but it will get done. Richardson will be the next Blackhawks head coach. https://t.co/rPJPro1TEC

— Pierre LeBrun (@PierreVLeBrun) June 24, 2022
He takes over from interim head coach Derek King, who replaced Jeremy Colliton 12 games into last season.

The 53-year-old native of Ottawa has served as an assistant with the Montreal Canadiens since 2018. Richardson has also held assistant coaching jobs with the Ottawa Senators and New York Islanders as well as head coach of the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Senators.

Richardson had a long 21-year career in the NHL as a defenceman, scoring 35 goals and 166 assists over 1,417 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Senators.

Internationally, Richardson helped Canada capture gold at the 1994 World Championship in Italy.

After reaching the playoffs during the pandemic-shortened 2019-20 season, Chicago missed the postseason each of the last two years, finishing second-last in the Central Division at 28-42-12 last season.

CONGRATULATIONS to the Av's
\:D/ \:D/

well done
I admit I don't pay close attention to the rest of the league compared to the teams in the Rangers division and then a lesser extent to those in the conference

I didn't realize the depth of Colorado until the tournament began to unfold

now I got an eye open on ya.... going forward

Daniel and Henrik Sedin will enter the Hockey Hall of Fame 23 years after the twins were each drafted by the Vancouver Canucks and started NHL journey together.

The Sedins headline the Hall of Fame's Class of 2022 that was revealed on Monday.

Roberto Luongo, Daniel Alfredsson and Riikka Sallinen of the Finland women's national team, were also voted in the players category, and Herb Carnegie in the Builders category by the 18-member Selection Committee as part of the Class of 2022, which will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in Toronto on Nov. 14.

Candidates had to receive at least 75 percent of the vote from the selection committee to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

A maximum of four former male players, two former female players, two builders or one builder and one former referee/linesman may be inducted in a single year.
