Jaroslav Halak made 19 saves in his first start since Nov. 12. He is 0-5-1 in six starts this season.

Is it too early to panic about the Rangers missing the playoffs this season? -- @KREIDERMAN20

Panic? Yes. Worry? No.

Panic is too strong of an emotion for any team 23 games into the season, but the Rangers are struggling and frustrated. They're not scoring at the rate they expect (3.00 goals per game, tied for 19th in the NHL). Their power play can look dangerous, but it isn't producing enough (21.3 percent, 18th). They're middle of the pack in 5-on-5 scoring (44 goals in 23 games). Turnovers are a problem. Their in-game funks last too long. Shesterkin hasn't bailed them out as often as he did last season, but he has all 10 of their wins because Jaroslav Halak hasn't delivered in the backup role. Lately, the Rangers have struggled to hold multigoal leads, losing 4-3 to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday after leading 3-0 going into the third period and to the Devils on Monday after taking a 2-0 lead 3:01 into the first. They have holes in their lineup. They didn't sign forward Jimmy Vesey to play in the top six, but he has. Alexis Lafreniere has three goals. Kaapo Kakko has four. They need more offense from both. Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck, New York's big offseason free agent signing, have not meshed like the Rangers hoped. The lack of a solid and reliable veteran defenseman on their third pair is apparent.

So, worry about the Rangers now, the fact that they're fifth in the Metropolitan Division and losers of three straight, the last two because of blown multigoal leads, and not getting the saves they need at key times from Shesterkin or the power-play production they require. But don't panic yet. Let's see how they handle the next three games, two in a row against the Ottawa Senators and one against the Chicago Blackhawks in the next four days. If they want to get back on track, they need to win all three.

If there’s been one constant to the 2022-23 New York Rangers it’s been key injuries to important players.

Ryan Lindgren, Filip Chytil, Vitali Kravtsov, and others have missed time during the young season while players like Jacob Trouba have dealt with nagging injuries all year.

It appears there’s another key Ranger that has been dealing with injuries.

According to reports today, free-agent newcomer Vincent Trocheck will be a gametime decision Wednesday when the Rangers take on the Ottawa Senators Wednesday night. Trocheck had a powerplay goal in the team’s 5-3 loss to New Jersey Monday night. In 23 games this season with the Rangers, Trocheck has totaled 15 points with eight goals to his credit.

Vincent Trocheck isn’t the only player that New York has been quiet about either.

Vitali Kravtsov has been a healthy scratch for the Rangers in the last eight games and only has one point recorded in the young season. While New York has not announced if Kravtsov will play or not Wednesday, practice lines showed Kravtsov working with a third line.

Vince Mercogliano of USA Today reported that Gallant seemed more open to the idea of Kravtsov back in the lineup with the coach looking for the former first-round pick to “Just show us your skill. Show us your talent. Show us your work ethic.”

The recent rash of injuries for the Rangers has hit at an inopportune time. New York has lost three games in a row, two of which saw the team blow multi-score leads. At 10-9-4, the Rangers sit in fifth place in the Metropolitan division with upcoming games against the Senators and Blackhawks on the horizon this weekend.

yea
the backup finally won one the other night

home today and Igor needs to get his head straight
it seems that if he let's in one... he kinda sorta checks out a little
especially if he thinks he should have had it

not good

I hope he has someone to discuss the mental toughness required
otherwise - he may be quite less than we think his talent shows over time

Breadman can't catch a break and he's in a funk
I guess Strome was a little better fit than Trochek is
(fair - it's coming out he's playing hurt - maybe shut down two weeks?)

Putting the Bread in with Kakko and Chytil should be more exciting than it seems to be
Chytil (23) is taking great strides in developing a power game
I need to remember Kakko is still only 21 years old - this game is all about experience and the confidence gained thru it

Senators again tonight
take care of business

Word on the street is it's just a matter of time before Kane and Toews will be gone

Either would be a great fit :-

But at what cost :?:

:-k
many players shy away from trying to slay the dragon in NY
Lebron James comes to mind

History shows that only Messier took on the challenge
came over to a "good" team - to be the piece that completes the puzzle
and chose to stay and finish the job by embracing it

the franchise is littered with players who were the "final piece" we need
who could not and didn't rise to the challenge

Esposito
Dionne
Beck
Lindross
Bure
Jagr
Nash
Gaborik
:- :- :- and that's just off the top of my head without much thought being put into it
Greg Polis... anyone? anyone?

my point is
many other players shied away because they didn't want the added burden on their
shoulders as their careers were winding down - true; years ago the game was mainly
played by guys in their very late twenties with the pique considered to be 31-32
today is a much different game and the stars are all 21-25 now

I wonder if they'd be up to the challenge or
should we just stay the course

the future is always now however

Holy shit that was brutal [-X

The tying goal instead of using the boards vinny goes straight up the ice
Hits Trouba in the back and then the puck is in the back of the net

The breadman looked like a pee wee on that breakaway in ot
Just fuckin lame ](*,) ](*,)

Something has got to give with this team it's Dec 3 :- :-

well...
at least they won

blowing 3 one goal leads over the course of an evening doesn't bode well
for what you're going to do when they put the money on the table
assuming... you even get to the table :?

Doesn't it feel better to overcome a 2 goal hole than to cough up a 2 goal lead :?:

nice job last night
too bad the devils picked up a losers point
man - they only have 5 regulation losses this year

the goalie looked a lot more focused
the early 2 goals against were on a screened deflection and a give away leaving someone open at the post

stoning Hughes on a penalty shot down 3-1 was huge :D

not bad
keep it up

The rangers have trouble with really fast teams :-
The devils are the real deal and a lot of it is the speed at which they play
They could go deep in the playoffs

RED hot Leafs tonight @MSG
:clap :clap
most complete sixty minute game since last Spring - missing "snarl" but it seemed the Leaf's didn't want to engage at that type of level - they kept the bread, mikka and 20 off the score sheet with tight defense and we did the same to marner and matthews - tight and quick paced :clap

1st time I saw nyr 2nd pp unit actually get to set itself up
see what happens when you have time....

Chytil is elevating his game... again

I also thought Coach Keefe was very classy
Vesey scored his open net at 18:47 and the Leaf's had several dump in's into the Ranger zone
that would give Toronto the opportunity to pull Murray a 2nd time
The game was "over" as far as he was concerned - not much of that happens anymore
it seems all teams continue to pull the goalie with sometimes up to 3 goals to make up

nice to see some class in a game mid season
