In the evening
When the day is done,
I'm looking for a woman,
Oh, but the girl don't come

In the mornin' when you rise
Do you think of me and how you left me cryin'?
Are you thinkin' of telephones, and managers
And where you got to be at noon?
You are living a reality I left years ago
It quite nearly killed me
In the long run it will make you cry
Make you crazy and old before your time
Dodging lions and a-wasting time
In memory of ChiefScott

In the morning I'm okay
Just fine in the afternoon
But at night I think about you
Like an echo in my brain
I wonder if you hear it too
'Cause at night I think about you

When Olswald shot Kennedy, he was insane
But still we watch the re-runs again and again
We all sit glued while the killer takes aim
"Hey Mom, there goes a piece of the president's brain!"

Eye on the TV
'Cause tragedy thrills me.
Whatever flavour
It happens to be:
"Killed by the husband",
"Drowned by the ocean",
"Shot by his own son",
"She used a poison in his tea",
"And kissed him goodbye".
That's my kind of story.
It's no fun 'til someone dies.
Stare like a junkie
Into the TV.
Stare like a zombie
While the mother
Holds her child,
Watches him die
Hands to the sky,
Crying, "Why, oh, why?"
'Cause I need to watch things die from a distance.
Vicariously I live while the whole world dies.
Inspiration move me brightly / Light my heart with sense and color /
Hold away despair / More than this I will not ask / Faced with mysteries dark and vast.............

Let me say this first for what it's worth
It's true that the meek shall inherit the earth
But that don't mean you gotta be weak or soft
Even on the mic you can't take no shorts
I only help those who want to help themselves if no one else
As a youngster they taught me to live and let live
And that's what I always did, word to miz
But there's a change in the world that I live in
So don't be surprised if I live and let die
Dodging lions and a-wasting time
In memory of ChiefScott

for what it's worth
There's something happening here
But what it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
A-telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop
Children, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
And nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Are gettin' so much resistance from behind
It's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down
Inspiration move me brightly / Light my heart with sense and color /
Hold away despair / More than this I will not ask / Faced with mysteries dark and vast.............

Sun Green started makin' waves
On the day her Grandpa died,
Speakin' out against anything
Unjust or packed with lies.
She chained herself to a statue of an eagle
In the lobby of Power Co.
And started yelling through a megaphone,
"There's corruption on the highest floor"
Suits poured out of elevators.
("You're all dirty.")
Phone-heads began to speak.
("You can't trust any of them.")
Security couldn't get her down,
She was welded to the eagle's beak.
Sun Green leaned into that megaphone,
And said, "Truth is all I seek."
Security brought in some blow torches.
News cameras recorded her speech.
When the city is plunged into darkness
By an unpredicted rolling blackout
The White House always blames the governor,
Saying the solution is to pull him out.
On top of that great bronze eagle
Sun's voice was loud and clear.
She said, "Power Co's working with the White House
To paralyze our state with fear."
It was a golden moment
In the history of TV news.
No one could believe it
It just got great reviews.
"Hey, Mr. Clean, you're dirty now, too."
"Hey, Mr. Clean, you're dirty now, too."
"Hey, Mr. Clean, you're dirty now, too."

When the red light shines
On the streets of hate
Where the devil dines
Who knows what he ate
It's a simple thing
Trying to stay afloat
The captain said
Without his boat
Some things are getting better
Other things a little worse
It's a situation
Much like a curse
It's the devil's sidewalk
It's the devil's door
I try to avoid it,"
Said the captain of the shore
There's a garden growing
And a million weeds
With no way of knowing
Who has done which deed
Inspiration move me brightly / Light my heart with sense and color /
Hold away despair / More than this I will not ask / Faced with mysteries dark and vast.............

I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
There's an old street light (near a garbage can)
Near a garbage can (near a garbage can)
And now she put the kid away and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool
Dodging lions and a-wasting time
In memory of ChiefScott

You pretend you're high
Pretend you're bored
Pretend you're anything
Just to be adored
And what you need
Is what you get
Don't believe in fear
Don't believe in faith
Don't believe in anything
That you can't break
Stupid girl
Stupid girl
All you had you wasted
All you had you wasted

Garbage

I was gonna go to work but then I got high (ohh, ohh)
I just got a new promotion but I got high (la da da da da)
Now I'm selling dope and I know why (why man?)
'Cause I got high
Because I got high
Because I got high

I'm not talking about the kind of clothes she wears
Look at that stupid girl
I'm not talking about the way she combs her hair
Look at that stupid girl
The way she powders her nose
Her vanity shows and it shows
She's the worst thing in this world
Well, look at that stupid girl
I'm not talking about the way she digs for gold
Look at that stupid girl
Well, I'm talking about the way she grabs and holds
Look at that stupid girl
The way she talks about someone else
That she don't even know herself
She's the sickest thing in this world
Well, look at that stupid girl

Well, she's coming down the stairs
Combing back her yellow hair
And I ain't going to be treated this old way
This old way
And I ain't going to be treated this old way
Well, she went up to her room where she sang her faithful tune
Well, I'm going where those chilly winds don't blow
Winds don't blow
Dodging lions and a-wasting time
In memory of ChiefScott

The same old drive-in, nights hanging in the car
Same old burning room without you
The same old pillowtalk, smoking in my yard
Watch the same old stars from my roof
I know that it looked easy for me to let you go
Doing all the things we planned without you
I get how it looks like I kept the best of us
And left the memories with you
I know I'm not allowed to say I’m hurting
'Cause I hurt you and I know that
I know I'm not allowed to say I miss you
’Cause I left you, so I hold back
Know I'm not allowed to feel the feelings I've felt
So I keep it to myself
But I'm still wondering how you're doing
'Cause I'm the same old me without you
Same old with someone new
Inspiration move me brightly / Light my heart with sense and color /
Hold away despair / More than this I will not ask / Faced with mysteries dark and vast.............

Stealin', stealin', pretty mama
Don't you tell on me
I'm stealin' back to my
Same old used to be
Now, put your arms around me
Like the circle round the sun
I want ya to love me, mama
Like my easy rider done
Dodging lions and a-wasting time
In memory of ChiefScott

Tell me mama, tell me right
Where did you sleep last night
You got to tell me baby, or I'm gonna loose my mind
Tell me baby, tell me yes
What you got underneath your dress?
You got to tell me baby, or I'm gonna loose my mind

Can’t you hear the whistle of my big spike hammer
Lord it’s busting my side
I’ve done all I can do to keep that woman happy
Still she’s not satisfied
Hey hey Della Mae
Why do you treat me this way
Hey hey Della Mae
I’ll get even some day
I’m the best hammer swinger on this big section gang
Big Bill Johnson is my name
Lord this hammer that I swing for a dollar and a half a day
I’ll all for my Della Mae
Now I’ve been lots of places, not much I ain’t done
There’s still alot of things I’d like to see
Lord this hammer that I swing or the woman that I love
Yes, one’s gonna be the death of me
Inspiration move me brightly / Light my heart with sense and color /
Hold away despair / More than this I will not ask / Faced with mysteries dark and vast.............

I been balling a shiny black steel jack-hammer,
Been chippin' up rocks for the great highway,
Live five years if I take my time,
Ballin' that jack and a drinkin' my wine.
I been chippin' them rocks from dawn till doom,
While my rider hide my bottle in the other room.
Doctor say better stop ballin' that jack,
If I live five years I gonna bust my back, yes I will.
Easy wind cross the Bayou today
Dodging lions and a-wasting time
In memory of ChiefScott

Sad Sack was sittin' on a block of stone
Way over in the corner weepin' all alone
The warden said, "Hey, buddy, don't you be no square
"If you can't find a partner use a wooden chair"
Let's rock
Everybody, let's rock
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock
