Dick thought it was the best Dark Star ever. And I'm not sure I disagree. I'll take this one and 10-9-89 over the old ones any day.

Years ago someone on the Archive compared the Miami Dark Star to being stuck in a pinball machine while on acid. An apt description, imo.

Was at this show and got a nice recording from my little D-6! I usually blast this Dark Star on Halloween while the Trick or Treating is happening!

Great show!!

this is the 1989 show in the 30 Trips box set and iirc it's one of a handful if not the only show recorded to 48 track tapes. the sound is phenomenal. :listen

Live dead album version is far superior in my humble opinion. The early 70s darkstars are the best of the best

Personally always been partial to any of the Fillmore East versions of Dark Star. Usually had that dark dank energy of NYC weaved in and out

Last really good one I caught was at Nassau in January 79. Also was the last time Dark Star and St Stephen were played in the same show

Fantastic 2nd set. DS gets the majority of the attention and rightly so. Don't sleep on the post drums section though. The NFA gets as crazy and weird as I recall them ever playing it.

Not a fan of Jerry's MIDI experimenting in general, but love it on the later-era Dark Stars. Jerry's voice sounds like shit on the Miami DS but that's a terrifying piece of music. Brent gets trippy as fuck too. Couldn't imagine dosing and getting spooked and being at that show to hear that.
