Re: Phil News
Last time I saw Phil was 10/12/21. I wanted to see the Q again. It had been awhile. The Q was my favorite lineup, although I did like the two Ryan Adams shows. Of course now I'm kicking myself for not seeing him for the last three years and probably will for some time to come.I have a few crappy cell phone pics, a poster and a pretty decent recording from 10/12/21 that I will cherish for the rest of my days. Thanks Phil!
Re: Phil News
I knew he wasn’t well but couldn’t afford to go in March to the Cap and regret it…I hate goodbyes and knew this might be it but such is life right you do what you can.
As an 84 year old man he had beats the odds statistically being the Beast he was, I mean who beats kidney cancer ,has a liver transplant, beats prostate cancer ,gets back surgery ,goes on dialysis cuz kidneys are failing and lives to be 84 years old and can party like the best of us at shows standing for hours working one’s craft?
He was a great man and although I hung in the Bobbyzone, I loved the Philzone! He loved the Philzone as well and even visiting the internet site a few times over the years before it disbanded, he was kilowatt.
Ive been thinking and I figure he went off dialysis last week ,which I had heard he was on ,and he just became pleasantly confused as ammonia builds up thus it affects your brain, hospice nurses alike me hopefully were there managing it all so he was very comfortable with morphine and ativan on board is the usual and he happily drifted off with loved ones at his side. In case anyone was wondering this is just what I think and thought I’d share it
I’ve been at a lot of deaths and I just have a feeling that his was peaceful which is all one can ask for at that point, folks know they’re dying I can’t explain it and he was quite evolved so it’s a blessing he got to say goodbye to loved ones as painful as that is. I will miss him as I know all of you will .
Phil’s passing is just like his bass bombshell, you feel them for a while.
Thank you Phil for a real good time.
I got a Cody band and will cherish it.
I miss you already as we all do and you will forever be in our hearts our minds and most importantly in our souls, may we meet again my friend

I usually just let people be when I run into someone famous as i assume they probably appreciate that more. One time I figured id probably should have said something was when I rode down an elevator with Joan, but assumed she had her hoodie on as she wanted to be left alone, but she kind of had a look like "dont you know who I am dumbass"ncdeadhead wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 12:39 amOne of my good friends and I met Phil before a show in October of 2007 in Charlottesville,VA.He was very kind and friendly and I will always remember that day.
The other, where I did actually say something was at a hotel front desk, me, Phil and the desk clerk, who went to fetch something for Phil. Standing there just the two of us, I introduced my self, thanked him for the joy he'd brought to my life and shook his hand. I ran into him and his wife later the same day walking main street of the little town we were in. Walking by them, Jill says to my wife "oh i just love your dress" i smiler at them both and went on our way. It was a good day. One of the cool things about furthur, all the cool venues we'd got to visit again
Btw, just came across Dave & Gillians tribute. Have to say that it hit pretty hard

Re: Phil News
This happened right in front of me. I was waiting on the first show with Kimock, Trey and Page. Phil came out IN FRONT OF THE WARFIELD CURTAIN with Kimock and his sons and played this. Was beautiful. Then the curtains opened and they did what is STILL the greatest Viola Lee Blues i have ever seen any band do.
Re: Phil News
^That must've been a great moment to witness. Phil's first time back after transplant I believe. Crazy that was over 25 years ago

Re: Phil News
Geez 25 years ago that’s scarey.
I was there. I really am very lucky.
Yes it was one of the most magical nights.
Phil’s children singing to the Deadheads was one of the sweetest moments.
I also got the bestest acid at Phil and Friends shows. 🫠
Thank you Phil for all the wonderful memories !

Re: Phil News
Lately its been weird to think about Phil having passed. When Jerry checked out, it felt like Grateful Dead still existed even with his death. Through the past 29 years, being a Deadhead took on a new shape and form - and was just as wonderful as it was before, albeit maybe a little less underground. Now today I feel like a relic of a bygone era. I fee like Phil's passing signals sort of a beggining of the end (I hate to think that). There's nothing you can hold for very long.
Are we now what those old guys were when we grew up, who were listening to "oldies" and thinking they were still swell Daddy-O?
