If you or someone you know is struggling in a similiar manner- the med called Suboxone can be a life saver. It's very expensive and difficult to obtain- and must be taken as prescribed. Anyone suffering, who wants to get well, should have immediate access- shame the system is set up for those who can afford it$.
He is correct. My daughter worked for a doctor who dealt with suboxone patients. She wouldn't take insurance...it was her mindset that if you wanted to really get clean, you will pay for it. She also would not prescribe any narcotics to any regular wellness patients. More doctors should follow in her footsteps.
In Pennsy. -a doctor has to pay big bucks to acquire a special license to prescribe Suboxone. Most insurance will pay for the meds, but not the doctor visits, which range in the $300./400. per visit- of which many docs will only at first prescribe two weeks worth. Either way, many who are able to, and truely want to get well, this med is a must. Someone I know drives over the bridge into New Jersey to a doc who does take insurance for this medicine-(Sleep and Wellness Center) perhaps there are different rules in different states regarding the distribution of suboxone.
I'm sorry to hear Tom was not able to stay on these meds.

Been thinking about him for the last few days
I really liked interacting with him and will miss his presence here
Wish he had made it up to the Fest last year

While you always may be an addict, there are many out there who have quit and never touched a drink again. As there are heroin addicts out there who have quit and never touched heroin again. There is hope, there is help my friend.

what a shock finding out about this. i could bust out crying. i thought he was a talented musician who still hadn't fully come into his own.

Reg ... I couldnt agree more .... I thought of him as a kid kinda too... he had that young energy for life and music ...had his whole life ahead of him.
It seemed like he taught himself how to play guitar quickly and I thought his playing was quite good .... he could have showed me a thing or two
May he find peace

In addition to the suboxone, you must have the will to want to quit, attending support meetings, etc. The drug alone will not cure you. It takes an entire support system...BUT you have to want to quit.

suboxone yea great drug. agree there needs to be a disire to quit.

cost is a factor with getting it. this was mentioned above. there 'are' programs that will pay... long waiting lists etc. Manufacturer paid programs too.

Suboxone is a hell of a lot cheaper than Oxys.

But yes, the will needs to be there - Which it sounded like Tom had if he was going in a few days after. One of the many things that makes this so sad. He obviously wanted help.

Not that I hear John Mayer very often, but every time I do, I know I'll think of WE and his ridiculous man-crush on him....

I also was never part of Tom's "crowd", but have known him on a "hey whats up basis" since Penns Peak 2005. He was wandering around in the lot by himself and walked up to my wife and I and asked us where we got the balloons. He noticed we were selling Sierra Nevada Pale Ale's and bought 2. From then on, whenever he would see us in the lot at a show he would come say hi and buy a sierra.......Although I'm 15 years older we are both SSU grads and we would chat about that for a minute or so.......nice guy, we always smiled when we saw him........In hindsight, in the more recent years there was that "look" present in his face that wasnt there in the beginning......the look of the dark side of the scene..............Still hard to believe this........................, I'm praying for his family and friends

suboxone is just as addictive as the oxys, but will leave you without the fog.
suboxone=methadone imo

I never met Tom, but went back and forth with him for 10 years or so on the board.
Enjoyed our conversations even when we disagreed.
Because Tom always talked intelligently on many different subjects

I'm sadden by his death on a personal level just because of our interaction on this board.

I want to pass along my deepest thoughts and prayers to his friends here
that really knew him. The ones that spent their lives with him
I can only imagine the pain you are feeling.

My heart goes out to you.

Well sometimes considering the BS the Feds pedal about different substance, it's not surprising no one believes what they say.

Technically if you want to be addicted to something, the opiates are the most benign and least harmful to the body, of the lot.

That having been said, how much evidence does one really need to know that this is not a party drug, it's a life altering substance that will not alter your life for the better.

Do you really want to play with this?

Really???

Tom we'll miss you.

Actually, I think Tom was an assman. Maybe in the afterlife he can sample it all.
