New York Rangers 2024/25
Re: New York Rangers 2024/25
1st impression - before the season starts on Wed
we are in trouble for now
it's all about getting off to a good start to cement good seeding in the tournament
injuries are a part of the game
the only upside to having them pop up now
is that they're popping up NOW instead of in April, May and June
Plenty of time (in theory) to work the "regulars" back into the mix
when the league puts the money on the table
but
we are one year older and the window is not fully open anymore on this group
can Kreider remain at the level he's been at for the last 2+ seasons?
is Zibanejad going to revert to the form of 2 years ago (though last season wasn't terrible)?
Breadman is older - maybe a step behind
Fox still shows upside; but "how's the knee?" will always be a question now (paging Mr Park )
it's a playoff league
let's get in and win 4 rounds for a change
home ice is a bonus - but president's cups are not STANLEY

i really hope the Lindgren move is just a "cap" thing
Vessey must have strained a knee in that practice

Not sure what to make of that game
Are the rangers that good or do the pens just suck?
Rare for a sully coached team to be not ready to play
Next> Home opener vs Utah Hockey Club sat night

I think it's more of... you're paying Crosby, Malkin & Letang quite a bit of your cap
these guys have been there they said; 20 years together now
father time is undefeated and if you can't put better people around them....
this is the result
the window on those 3 as a core is probably closed - the pens went all in on them again
a few years back and this is probably the end of the cindy crybaby era in Pittsburg
they had a good run - they won with 2 different groups around them
next
Igor looked sharp
nice statement game for him
"I'm betting on myself for that next contract"
we probably should have opted to pay him more now
'cause
if he accomplishes his goals (doesn't even need to sip from Stanley here)
he will be paid even more! (true the cap is going up for a change - significantly)
I view this in the same prism as Aaron Judge a couple of years back
the Yankees had a number before the season
he played without the extension
and it cost the Yankees even more when the finally signed him
They looked ok
they're supposed to dominate the Pens these days
Power Play had a decent look once or twice but nothing special
PK looks focused - but then again the Pens are a sieve on their own power play

better effort last night
I think "opening night msg" was a little too much of a "show"
and the fell into it - nice sack finding offense to get a losers point though

From the Bleacher report>
Joe DeCarlo Jr.
Igor and Laffy for Ullmark and Brady Tkachuk. Goalies replace themselves, Ottawa gets an up and coming forward and we get a sandpaper, go to the net, physical warrior we need. And STILL have money to spend (Ullmark and Brady get around 8 million each, Igor wants 11-12 and Laf rumors are 8.) If these numbers pan out we have an extra 4 million to spend. And yes, I'd rather have Brady than Laf, NOT criticizing Laf but Brady would fill a need, in my opinion. Of course OTTAWA might not want this.

Joe is proving that LSD is making a major comeback. I could provide the 64 different reasons why this particular transaction will never happen, but I don't want to have to lose 27 seconds of my life spent on much more productive behavior.

Re: New York Rangers 2024/25
In the three-game sample of regular-season games since Shesterkin declined an eight-year, $88 million extension that would’ve made him the NHL’s highest-paid goalie, he has continued to bail out the Blueshirts — especially during the second period against the Red Wings — and produce a strong start to what has now become a contract season.
At what point do you become too good or too expensive for a team
No one player can win the cup
And if you put most of the money it into one player
You will not either
Glad I'm not making this decision

^^^
all the more reason to amend the cap rules to be able to keep your own players
I hope someone impresses upon Igor, that sometimes a little less today
will bring even more tomorrow
I never begrudge a player to take every penny >< go get it... you earned it
but
is money worth more to you than winning.... overall

He will never see another contract like this again
This is a tough one
Go sign a 13 million a year with some one else if it's money you want He is going to win a cup someday the question is where?

Re: New York Rangers 2024/25
DETROIT — If you thought the five points Artemi Panarin put up through the first four games of last season foreshadowed his 120-point campaign, the possibilities for the 2024-25 season could be endless after the star Russian wing upped his total to 11 over the same span.
Rising higher and higher game after game, the Breadman delivered a hat trick and a four-point effort in the Rangers’ 5-2 dismantling of the Red Wings on Thursday night at Little Caesars Arena.
That is great
But he needs to do that with a guy on his back in may

YYZ looks scary -
it seems they have figured out how to use Mathews
and methinks Mathews may be better overall than MacDavid
come the spring YYZ may be a tougher out to get than it used to be

Re: New York Rangers 2024/25
Alexis Lafreniere did not practice with the Rangers on Monday ahead of their game in Montreal because of an upper-body injury.
Coach Peter Laviolette said the forward is day to day. Matt Rempe skated in Lafreniere's spot on the second line to the right of Artemi Panarin and center Vincent Trocheck.
Lafreniere scored and played 18:00 in a 4-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday. He has three goals and three assists in a season-opening five-game point streak.

Re: New York Rangers 2024/25
^^
ya know...
Rempe is showing some skill out there
He doesn't cough up the puck in our end and often he's in
good position in front of the net, setting screens
and
his mere presence on a forecheck has defensemen
really rushing their decisions - leads to more turnovers than expected
you can see he worked on his skating
there may be something there
