Re: It's a great day for hockey 2024-2025
* Nathan MacKinnon factored on three of five Avalanche goals and became the first player with 50 points this season – the 10th straight campaign he’s hit the mark.
* Utah Hockey Club were one of several teams to extend their streaking ways Saturday as they set an NHL benchmark for longest road winning streak by a franchise in its inaugural season.
* Plenty of players set to represent their country at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February put up noteworthy performances, including Auston Matthews, Jack Hughes and Josh Morrissey.
* A doubleheader on Sportsnet and TVA Sports involving the Islanders, Blackhawks, Rangers and Blues highlights a five-game Sunday.
MacKINNON REACHES 50 POINTS, BLACKWOOD IMPRESSES IN TEAM DEBUT
Nathan MacKinnon (2-1—3) followed up a five-point performance from two games ago with another multi-point outing tonight and became the first player to reach the 50-point mark this season, while Mackenzie Blackwood made 37 saves in his team debut as Colorado (18-14-0, 36 points) moved past Vancouver (15-9-5, 35 points) for the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. Only two other players in franchise history have been the NHL’s first to 50 in a campaign: Mikko Rantanen (2018-19) and Peter Forsberg (1997-98).
* MacKinnon’s 90th career three-point night helped him record his 10th consecutive 50-point season. The only players in franchise history with a run of that length are Joe Sakic (18), Peter Stastny (10) and Michel Goulet (10).
* Blackwood is no stranger to high save totals in his debut for a franchise – he set the NHL benchmark for saves in a team debut when he stopped 51 shots for the Sharks on Oct. 14, 2023 against his current team. With his 37-save performance Saturday, Blackwood became the fourth goaltender in Avalanche/Nordiques history to register as many in his debut with the club, joining Adam Werner (40 on Nov. 12, 2019), Craig Anderson (38 on Oct. 1, 2009) and Jeremy Smith (37 on Feb. 14, 2017).
UTAH HOCKEY CLUB, CAPITALS, OILERS EXTEND STREAKS SATURDAY
Utah Hockey Club (14-11-5, 33 points), the Capitals (21-6-2, 44 points) and Oilers (18-10-2, 38 points) each extended their respective streaks with wins during a plethora of games Saturday:
* Logan Cooley (0-2—2) and Dylan Guenther (1-0—1) both extended their road point streaks to eight games – the longest active runs in the NHL – and Clayton Keller (1-1—2) scored the League’s eighth go-ahead goal within the final minute of regulation this season as Utah defeated San Jose in a contest that featured a tying goal in every period. Utah became the first franchise in NHL history to post a six-game road win streak its inaugural season, breaking a tie with the North Stars (5 GP in 1967-68).
* Buffalo erased a 2-1 deficit, but Dylan Strome (1-0—1) broke a third-period tie and Jakob Chychrun (1-1—2) potted another for good measure as Washington extended its point streak to nine games (8-0-1) and overtook New Jersey for top spot in the Eastern Conference standings. Chychrun leads the Capitals in points and assists in **Alex Ovechkin**’s absence, with 4-8—12 (11 GP).
* Leon Draisaitl (1-2—3) extended his multi-point streak to five games with his 97th career three-point outing and surpassed Nikita Kucherov (96 GP) for second most since the former’s debut in 2014-15, behind only Connor McDavid (128 GP). That Oilers duo both factored on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins' game-opening tally – the 122nd goal they’ve both assisted on in their careers – and helped Edmonton extend the League’s longest active winning streak to five games, while snapping Vegas’ four-game run in the process.
PLAYERS POST A PREVIEW OF WHAT TO EXPECT AT 4 NATIONS FACE-OFF
Several players who are gearing up to represent their country in the 4 Nations Face-Off gave fans a preview of what to expect at the tournament following productive performances Saturday.
* Auston Matthews scored for the second time in three games and boosted his regular-season totals this calendar year to 50-33—83 (69 GP) – the third-most goals among all players through that span, behind Sam Reinhart (53 in 77 GP) and Kirill Kaprizov (53 in 70 GP). The Maple Leafs captain, one of nine players in NHL history with four or more consecutive calendar years with 50 or more regular-season goals, is the only player in franchise history to accomplish the feat multiple times.
* In a battle between two goaltenders who could go head-to-head in the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, Jake Oettinger – set to represent the United States – and the Stars defeated Jordan Binnington – set to represent Canada – and the Blues with a victory in overtime. Oettinger earned his 49th win of the 2024 calendar year (including playoffs) and passed Ed Belfour (48 in 2000) for the most by a goaltender in Stars/North Stars history.
* The Penguins tied the game twice before Senators captain Brady Tkachuk extended his franchise record with a ninth career overtime goal and helped Ottawa (15-13-2, 32 points) climb into a playoff position for the first time since Nov. 13. Ullmark (25 saves), whose country will go head-to-head with his captain’s on Feb. 17 when Sweden and the United States meet at TD Garden, improved to 6-0-1 in his past seven games and joined Martin Gerber (10-0-2 in 2006-07) as the second goaltender to post a streak of at least that length within his first season with the franchise.
* Matt Boldy (1-0—1) scored the game-winning goal to record his 200th NHL point and Marc-Andre Fleury made a highlight-reel save to help the Wild (20-6-4, 44 points) match their franchise mark for fewest games to 20 wins in a campaign (also 30 GP in 2011-12). Boldy became the fifth-fastest active American player to reach the milestone (233 GP) behind Jason Robertson (190 GP), Matthews (204 GP), Patrick Kane (215 GP) and Jack Eichel (230 GP). He also required the second-fewest games in Wild history to reach the mark behind Kaprizov (169 GP).
* Jack Hughes (1-0—1) scored the decisive tally during a four-goal third period to help the Devils (20-10-3, 43 points) earn their 11th comeback win of the season, tied with the Jets for the second most among all teams and trailing the Capitals (13). Hughes’ tally marked the 20th game-winning goal of his career and tied Zach Parise for the most in franchise history before age 24.
* Josh Morrissey (0-2—2) factored on two of four Jets goals, including the game winner, and boosted his 2024 calendar year totals to 7-62—69 as he surpassed his own benchmark for most points in a calendar year by a Jets/Thrashers defenseman. Morrissey also climbed a couple of franchise lists: now in fifth for multi-assist games and tied for sixth on for all-time assists.
* Brayden Point (1-1—2) became the third player to score 20 goals this season – after Kaprizov also hit the mark earlier Saturday – and did so in 24 games, the second fastest in Lightning history behind Steven Stamkos (21 GP in 2010-11). His teammate, but opponent at the 4 Nations Face-Off, Jake Guentzel (1-1—2) also found the back of the net and extended his goal streak to a career-high six games and became the fourth active player with a run of that length in his first season with a franchise, joining Alex Ovechkin (7 GP & 6 GP in 2005-06 w/ WSH), Evgeni Malkin (6 GP in 2006-07 w/ PIT) and Matthew Tkachuk (6 GP in 2022-23 w/ FLA).
#NHLSTATS: LIVE UPDATES FROM A 15-GAME SATURDAY
Notes and storylines were aplenty from a 15-game Saturday, including a four-point performance from Bruins veteran David Pastrnak (1-3—4) and 32-save shutout from Flames rookie Dustin Wolf.
* Pastrnak played a part in four of five Bruins goals and factored on a game winner for the 141st time (62-79—141), which passed David Krejci (43-97—140) for the sixth most in franchise history. His effort also boosted his career totals to 359-400—759 (706 GP) as he required the second-fewest games by a Czechia-born player in NHL history to reach 400 career assists, behind Jaromir Jagr (546 GP).
* Nazem Kadri’s highlight-reel goal stood as the game winner while Wolf (32 saves) registered his second career shutout (29 saves on Nov. 15) and became the fifth goaltender in franchise history to record multiple shutouts before age 24. In fact, only four rookie netminders have recorded more saves in a shutout for the Flames.
DOUBLEHEADER ON SPORTSNET, TVA SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS FIVE-GAME SUNDAY
The second 15-game Saturday of the season is followed up by a five-game slate with the Islanders (12-12-7, 31 points), Blackhawks (9-19-2, 20 points), Rangers (15-13-1, 31 points) and Blues (14-14-3, 31 points) all back in action during a doubleheader on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

Re: It's a great day for hockey 2024-2025
* The roller-coaster ride that was the 2024 Stanley Cup Final continued during the rematch as Carter Verhaeghe, Sam Reinhart and the Panthers prevailed in the 13th contest to feature four game-tying goals this season.
* Kiefer Sherwood became the third skater to score three consecutive goals within the last six days (also John Tavares on Dec. 15 & Drake Batherson on Dec. 11) as players continued to notch natural hat tricks at a historic pace. With every hat trick this season, AstraZeneca will donate $3,000 to the Hockey Fights Cancer Fund of the V Foundation up to $300,000.
* The ice truck arrived at Wrigley Field ahead of the Discover NHL Winter Classic, while Connor Bedard surprised 100 girls and boys at a local Boys & Girls Club by helping them open and test their brand-new ball hockey rink as a Legacy to the event.
* Martin Necas and the Hurricanes host Anders Lee and the Islanders on ESPN+ tonight, with the 10-game slate also set to feature Oliver Wahlstrom making his Bruins debut after being claimed by Boston on Dec. 14. Wahlstrom, who was born in New England and skated with the Portland Jr. Pirates minor hockey program, went viral for his series of lacrosse-style goals during a Mini 1-on-1 competition at TD Garden in 2009.
Panthers, Oilers pick up where they left off in Stanley Cup Final rematch
Carter Verhaeghe (1-1—2) vaulted the visitors to victory by scoring the game’s 11th and final goal as Florida foiled Edmonton in a back-and-forth Stanley Cup Final rematch featuring five go-ahead markers, four tying tallies and just 8:31 of playing time where a team held a multi-goal lead.
* Sam Reinhart (20-21—41 in 32 GP), who recorded the Cup clincher in Game 7 of the Final after Verhaeghe opened the scoring, reached 20 goals on the season via one of the go-ahead markers Monday. The Panthers (19-11-2, 40 points) snapped the Oilers’ five-game winning streak and tied the idle Maple Leafs (19-10-2, 40 points) for the most points in the Atlantic Division.
* Connor McDavid (0-3—3), Zach Hyman (2-0—2), Leon Draisaitl (1-1—2) and Connor Brown (1-0—1) – who had key roles in Edmonton erasing a 3-0 series deficit against Florida during the championship series – spearheaded the Oilers’ comeback attempt once again. McDavid mustered his 50th career three-assist game, which included his 200th helper on a goal scored by Draisaitl.
BICHSEL BOLSTERS DALLAS AS STARS SNAP CAPITALS’ ROAD WINNING STREAK
More highlights from Monday’s three-game slate:
* Lian Bichsel’s second career tally stood as the winner and Roope Hintz potted a pair of goals as Dallas (19-11-0, 38 points) defeated an opponent with a 10-game road winning streak for the first time in franchise history. The longest run halted by the Stars/North Stars entering Monday was an eight-game stretch by the 2018-19 Blues.
* Bichsel became the second defenseman in franchise history to score two goals within his first three NHL games, joining Minnesota North Stars blueliner Derian Hatcher (2 in 1991-92). Bichsel (20 years, 212 days) also became the club’s second-youngest defenseman with a game-winning goal, behind only Miro Heiskanen (4; youngest: 19 years, 99 days on Oct. 25, 2018).
* Kiefer Sherwood scored each of the game’s first three goals to record his first career hat trick and vault Vancouver (16-9-5, 37 points) past Colorado (18-15-0, 36 points) for the Western Conference’s first Wild Card spot. Sherwood notched the NHL’s ninth natural hat trick this season – the only other campaigns in League history to feature as many at this stage (through 495 GP) were 1991-92 (11), 1986-87 (10) and 1985-86 (10).
* Monday’s edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates had more notes from the slate, which featured 23 total goals including one scored off a tipped shot by Capitals’ leading scorer Dylan Strome (11-27—38 in 30 GP) on Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger. That came just a few days after Oettinger was featured in the newest spot released by the League, which has the logline “Tipping is out of control these days. Especially for goalies in the NHL.”
Ice truck arrives at Wrigley FIELD; Blackhawks help open ball hockey rink
The NHL mobile refrigeration truck arrived at Wrigley Field on Monday in preparation for the Discover NHL Winter Classic, while the League and Blackhawks joined a local Boys & Girls Club and Spry Community School to open a brand-new ball hockey rink at a completely renovated outdoor courtyard as a Legacy to the event. Chicago clashes with St. Louis on New Year’s Eve (5 p.m. ET on TNT, Max, truTV, SN, TVAS).
TWENTY TEAMS IN ACTION TUESDAY INCLUDING HURRICANES, ISLANDERS ON ESPN+
A 10-game Tuesday features a showdown between the Hurricanes (19-10-1, 39 points) and Islanders (12-13-7, 31 points) on ESPN+ and Hulu as well as a doubleheader on Sportsnet programming that features two members of Canada’s 4 Nations Face-Off roster in action as Sidney Crosby and the Penguins (13-14-5, 31 points) clash with the Kings (18-9-3, 39 points) before Brad Marchand and the Bruins (16-13-3, 35 points) battle the Flames (15-11-5, 35 points).
* Rod Brind’Amour and the Hurricanes will look to earn their 20th win of the season when they host the Islanders Tuesday and can reach the mark in 31 or fewer games for the fourth time in franchise history (also 27 GP in 2020-21, 28 GP in 2021-22 & 31 GP in 2005-06). Brind’Amour owns a 23-9-2 record (regular season & playoffs) against the Islanders since making his coaching debut in 2018-19 – his most wins against a single franchise.
* Crosby needs one multi-point game to surpass Steve Yzerman (477 GP) for the seventh most in League history and can also climb the League’s all-time home points list with such a performance. The Penguins captain has 7-15—22 in 22 career games against the Kings, including at least a point in each of his past five home contests versus the club (2-4—6).
* Marchand enters Tuesday with a point in each of his past six road games (7-1—8) and can record the longest run by a Bruins player since David Pastrnak (10 GP in 2022-23). The Bruins captain, who has scored in each of his past two contests, needs one game-winning goal to surpass Patrice Bergeron (81) for sole possession of second place on the franchise’s all-time list.

Re: It's a great day for hockey 2024-2025
* Patrik Laine scored the League's 100th hat trick of the 2024 calendar year (regular season & playoffs combined) and his first as a member of the Canadiens. With every hat trick this season, AstraZeneca will donate $3,000 to the Hockey Fights Cancer Fund of the V Foundation up to $300,000.
* Connor Hellebuyck was one of three 4 Nations Face-Off goaltenders who achieved notable feats Tuesday and became the first netminder to 20 wins in 2024-25.
* Winnipeg’s Kevin He made history as the first Chinese-born player to sign an NHL contract.
* A five-game slate Wednesday features a national broadcast in Canada when the Maple Leafs visit the Stars on Sportsnet and TVA Sports as well as a doubleheader on TNT and Max in the United States featuring the Flyers against the Red Wings before the Wild welcome the Panthers.
POWER PLAY PROPELS PATRIK TO A HAT TRICK AT BELL CENTRE
Patrik Laine (3-0—3) has made the most of his power play opportunities to begin his tenure with the Canadiens and scored three more times on the man advantage to register his 11th career hat trick and lift his club to victory at Bell Centre – a venue he hopes to continue his success in when he competes with Finland at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Only two Finnish players in NHL history have more career hat tricks than Laine: Jari Kurri (23) and Teemu Selanne (22)
* Laine (6-1—7 in 7 GP) has scored each of his first six goals with the Canadiens on the power play – the longest stretch by a player to begin their tenure with the franchise and two more than the next closest (Mark Recchi: 4 in 1994-95). In fact, he also tied Tyler Toffoli (6-3—9 in 2020-21), Kjell Dahlin (6-6—12 in 1985-86), Bobby Smith (6-2—8 in 1983-84) and Craig Laughlin (6-3—9 in 1981-82) for the most goals overall by a Canadiens player through his first seven games with the franchise in the expansion era (since 1967-68).
* Tuesday marked the third consecutive day with a hat trick and the 100th since Jan. 1. (regular season & playoffs combined). It is the third consecutive calendar year with a triple-digit total following 2022 (117) and 2023 (108). The only longer stretch in NHL history spanned from 1980 to 1986.
* Laine had 6-2—8 and 4-2—6 through his first seven games with the Jets and Blue Jackets, respectively, and also concluded his tenure with each franchise with at least one hat trick (WPG: 8 & CBJ: 2).
4 NATIONS FACE-OFF GOALTENDERS SECURE WINS TUESDAY
Goaltenders Linus Ullmark (SWE), Jeremy Swayman (USA) and Connor Hellebuyck (USA), who will each be representing their respective countries at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, each picked up wins Tuesday:
* Ullmark made 30 saves for his second straight shutout on the road and extended his winning streak to six games – tied for the sixth longest in franchise history – as he helped the Senators (16-13-2, 34 points) build a one-point cushion for the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. Ullmark leads all goaltenders in wins dating to the beginning of his streak on Dec. 5 and has stopped 173 of 178 shots faced, boasting a .972 save percentage through that stretch.
* With the help of Swayman (20 saves) and David Pastrnak, who climbed the Bruins’ all-time list with his 11th career overtime goal, Boston secured its League-leading third multi-goal, third-period comeback win of the season. Swayman registered his 90th career victory and became the second-fastest American goaltender in NHL history to reach the mark, behind only Frank Brimsek (137 GP).
* Hellebuyck made 32 saves to help the Jets (23-9-1, 47 points) overcome a 3-2 deficit and earn his League-leading 20th win of the season. Hellebuyck became just the fifth active goaltender to reach the mark in 26 or fewer games in a campaign (min. 1 GP in 2024-25), joining Andrei Vasilevskiy (24 GP in 2020-21 & 2017-18), Ullmark (24 GP in 2022-23), Igor Shesterkin (26 GP in 2021-22) and Frederik Andersen (26 GP in 2021-22).
METROPOLITAN DIVISION CLUBS JOCKEY FOR POSITIONING
A trio of Metropolitan Division clubs picked up wins Tuesday, with the Devils (21-10-3, 45 points) leapfrogging the Capitals (21-8-2, 44 points) for first place in the division while the third-place Hurricanes (20-10-1, 41) gained ground and the Penguins (14-14-5. 33 points) inched closer to a playoff position.
* Jack Hughes (0-2—2) factored on two of his team’s four goals as New Jersey captured its eighth road win in nine contests, which includes a stretch of four straight victories. Hughes, with 25-46—71 (66 GP) this calendar year, joined Jesper Bratt (27-55—82 in 81 GP) and Nico Hischier (35-44—79 in 81 GP) as the third Devils player with at least 70 regular-season points since Jan. 1. Only three other calendar years since 1990 have featured three players hit the mark for the franchise: 2022, 2006 and 1993.
* Pyotr Kochetkov stopped all 32 shots he faced in Carolina’s 4-0 victory against its divisional rival NY Islanders and helped the Hurricanes become the third Eastern Conference team with 20 wins this season – all of whom are in the Metropolitan Division. In the process, Kochetkov climbed into sole possession of seventh on the franchise’s all-time shutout list and eighth on the wins list.
* Trailing 2-1 with less than six minutes remaining in the contest, Sidney Crosby (0-1—1) factored on the tying tally to help the Penguins pull even and set the stage for Rickard Rakell (1-1—2) in overtime at PPG Paints Arena. The Pittsburgh captain recorded his 572nd career home assist and tied Joe Sakic for the 11th most in NHL history.
GUENTZEL NETS ANOTHER AS LIGHTNING WITHSTAND THIRD-PERIOD RALLY
The Blue Jackets rallied from a 3-0 first-period deficit to defeat the Lightning in their first meeting of the season 26 days ago and nearly erased a four-goal, third-period disadvantage Tuesday, but Brayden Point’s 21st goal of the season ensured Tampa Bay (17-10-2, 36 points) would avoid déjà vu and capture its third straight win.
* The Tuesday edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates featured notes on players from all 20 teams in action, including more on Point’s teammate Jake Guentzel who helped the Lightning build an early lead and became the eighth player since 1992-93 to post a goal streak of at least seven games in his first season with a franchise.
HE MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST CHINESE-BORN PLAYER TO SIGN NHL CONTRACT
Kevin He became the first Chinese-born player to sign an NHL contract after he was selected in the fourth round by the Jets at the 2024 NHL Draft. He is captain of the Niagara IceDogs and currently sits fourth in the OHL in goals.
* He's love for hockey began with his father, Jason, who went to school in Moncton, New Brunswick as an international student and put Kevin on rollerblades at age 3. Once the family moved to Canada, He learned English and French and is now trilingual, also speaking Mandarin. Read more about his story.
WEDNESDAY FEATURES NATIONAL BROADCASTS IN CANADA, UNITED STATES
A five-game Wednesday includes a pair of national broadcasts on both sides of the border, with the Maple Leafs visiting the Stars and the Canucks making their first trip to Utah on Sportsnet and TVA Sports programming in Canada and a TNT doubleheader in the United States that starts with the Red Wings hosting the Flyers and concludes with the Panthers visiting the Wild.
* Wednesday could mark the fifth all-time meeting between the Robertson brothers, with Nicholas Robertson (2-0—2 in 4 GP; 4-0-0 record) holding the edge over brother Jason Robertson (0-1—1 in 4 GP; 0-3-1 record) across the previous four meetings.
* The Canucks (16-9-5, 37 points; WC1) and Utah Hockey Club (14-11-5, 33 points; 3 points back of WC2) both enter Wednesday in the thick of the wild card race in the Western Conference. Vancouver has a 10-2-1 road record in 2024-25 with a League-leading .808 points percentage as the visiting team.
* The Flyers (14-13-4, 32 points) and Red Wings (12-14-4, 28 points) are currently below the playoff line looking to gain ground in a tight Eastern Conference where every team is within eight points of a playoff spot. Red Wings forward Patrick Kane (474-821—1,295 in 1,255 GP) will look to continue on his path towards becoming the second U.S.-born player to 1,300 points (he would join Mike Modano), after snapping a nine-game drought with an assist in his last game Dec. 14 vs. Toronto.
* Kirill Kaprizov (22-25—47 in 30 GP) has scored twice in each of his last two appearances and leads the League with six multi-goal games in 2024-25. He is tracking to best his franchise mark for fewest games to 50 points in a season (38 GP in 2021-22) and is on pace for 126 points, which would also top his already established Wild record (108 in 2021-22).
* U.S. fans watching the Panthers-Wild game nationally on TNT will get a good look at some of the players who will suit up for the United States at the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off in February: Minnesota’s Matt Boldy and Brock Faber as well as Florida’s Matthew Tkachuk. Click here for a Behind the Numbers look at the 4 Nations Face-Off rosters.

Re: It's a great day for hockey 2024-2025
* Patrick Kane scored his 78th career game-winning goal to help the Red Wings defeat the Flyers and climbed an elite list of U.S.-born players in the process.
* A pair of players set to skate in the 4 Nations Face-Off in February posted multi-goal games Wednesday, including William Nylander who became the third active Swedish player to record four consecutive 20-goal seasons.
* NHL Coast to Coast, the live whip-around show available to viewers on Prime Video Canada starting at 7 p.m. ET, returns as 18 teams hit the ice during Thursday’s slate including Brady Tkachuk and the Senators setting their sights on a fifth straight win.
* For all players on an NHL active roster, injured reserve, or with non-roster and injured non-roster status as of 11:59 p.m. local time tonight, a roster freeze shall apply through 12:01 a.m. local time on Dec. 28, with respect to waivers, trades and loans, subject to the exceptions provided for in CBA Article 16.5 (d).
KANE CLIMBS GAME-WINNING GOAL LIST IN DETROIT WIN AGAINST PHILADELPHIA
Patrick Kane (1-1—2) and Lucas Raymond (1-1—2) helped the Red Wings build multiple leads through 40 minutes and again rose to the occasion in the final frame to secure a Detroit victory after Philadelphia erased a multi-goal deficit. Kane (475-822—1,297), who moved within three points of 1,300 in his career, climbed an NHL all-time list among U.S.-born players with his 78th career game-winning goal.
* Kane and Alex DeBrincat combined on Detroit’s first go-ahead goal and have teamed up on the same goal 160 times in their careers – the second most by a pair of U.S.-born teammates in NHL history behind Quinn Hughes and J.T. Miller (167). Detroit’s third go-ahead goal also marked Kane’s 475th career tally and moved the Buffalo, N.Y., native within one of tying Joe Pavelski (476) for the fifth most by a U.S.-born skater in League history.
* Raymond’s effort extended his home point streak to eight games (7-4—11 in 8 GP) and helped the Red Wings forward climb a list of his own. His 84th career goal tied Ted Lindsay for the fifth most in franchise history by a skater age 22 or younger; the list is topped by Steve Yzerman (164), Gordie Howe (113), Marcel Dionne (92) and current captain Dylan Larkin (88).
PAIR OF 4 NATIONS FACE-OFF SKATERS PUT UP MULTI-GOAL PERFORMANCES
William Nylander (SWE) and Matthew Tkachuk (USA), who are set to represent their respective countries at the 4 Nations Face-Off in February, both posted multi-goal games to help the Atlantic Division’s top two teams earn victories Wednesday:
* Nylander (2-0—2) scored twice to reach 20 goals on the season while Joseph Woll made 36 saves and became the third goaltender in Maple Leafs history to hit 30 career wins in 49 or fewer games (also Jack Campbell: 43 GP & Ed Belfour: 49 GP) as Toronto (20-10-2, 42 points) extended its win streak versus Dallas to seven contests – it’s longest active run against an opponent.
* Nylander required the third-fewest games by an active Swedish player to reach 20 goals in a season behind Viktor Arvidsson (29 GP in 2018-19) and Filip Forsberg (30 GP in 2021-22). It marked his seventh career 20-goal campaign, a feat only seven other players have achieved with the Maple Leafs.
* Tkachuk (2-0—2) scored two of his team’s six goals while Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves and matched his franchise benchmark for fewest games to 15 wins in a single season – a mark he set in 2020-21 and matched in 2021-22 – as the Panthers (20-11-2, 42 points) kept pace with the Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
* Tkachuk tallied his 14th multi-goal game with the Panthers and surpassed Ray Whitney, Scott Mellanby and Radek Dvorak (13 GP) for the eighth most in franchise history. He also recorded his 68th multi-point game with Florida and tied Pavel Bure for the ninth most in club history.
NHL Coast to Coast has Surging Senators skating at scotiabank Saddledome
NHL Coast to Coast, the weekly studio show featuring live look-ins, highlights and expert analysis of every contest, returns during a nine-game night highlighted by Brady Tkachuk and the Senators looking to stretch their season-high winning streak to five games when they visit Nazem Kadri and the Flames. Fans can tune in on Prime Video Canada starting at 7 p.m. ET.
* Tkachuk, Tim Stützle and Drake Batherson have combined for seven goals and 11 points since the run began, with Ottawa (16-13-2, 34 points) climbing into a Wild Card spot after occupying 13th place in the Eastern Conference entering Dec. 11. Linus Ullmark, who has victories in each of his last six appearances dating back even further to Dec. 5, can become the fifth goaltender in franchise history with a seven-game winning streak and first since Andrew Hammond (9 GP from March 4-23, 2015).
* Kadri (4-0—4 in 4 GP) can become the third player in franchise history with a five-game goal streak at age 34 or older, following Jarome Iginla (6 GP from March 4-15, 2012) and Kelly Kisio (6 GP from April 4-13, 1995). Kadri (15-16—31 in 38 GP) has 15 goals and 31 points in his career against the Senators, which mark his highest totals versus one franchise.
* The slate also features national telecasts in the U.S. and Canada including Anze Kopitar and the Kings visiting Matvei Michkov and the Flyers on ESPN+ as well as Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers hosting Brad Marchand and the Bruins on Sportsnet ONE. Draisaitl (6-9—15 in 6 GP) can collect a career high-tying seventh straight multi-point game (also 7 GP from May 1-12, 2021), while Marchand (5-3—8 in 7 GP) enters play with points in each of his last seven contests.
* More highlights include Jake Guentzel (9-3—12 in 7 GP) and Jordan Kyrou (5-0—5 in 5 GP) putting their lengthy goal streaks on the line; Connor Bedard continuing to approach his outdoor game debut against the winning team from last year’s Winter Classic; as well as the first meeting between League scoring leader Nathan MacKinnon (13-37—50 in 33 GP) and fellow No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini. Bedard was featured in Episode 3 of “Road to the Discover NHL Winter Classic presented by Enterprise”, which debuted on TNT yesterday and premieres in Canada on Sportsnet ONE at 8:30 p.m. ET tonight.

Re: It's a great day for hockey 2024-2025
Kaapo Kakko was traded to the Seattle Kraken by the New York Rangers on Wednesday.
New York received defenseman Will Borgen, and a third- and sixth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.
“We’ve been kicking tires on different things and with (forward Jordan Eberle) out, we’re short on the right side,” Kraken general manager Ron Francis said. “This guy gives us somebody that can play the right wing. He’s a big boy, and he’s got some skills. So, we thought it was the right move to make.”
Eberle, the Seattle captain, underwent pelvis surgery on Nov. 22 and is expected to be out through at least the end of February. He last played on Nov. 14.
Kakko, a 23-year-old forward, has 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in 30 games this season while averaging 13:17 of ice time per game. He was selected No. 2 in the 2019 Draft by the Rangers and had 131 points (61 goals, 70 assists) in 330 games during his time in New York. Kakko returned to the lineup in a 3-0 loss to the Nashville Predators Tuesday after he was a healthy scratch in a 3-2 loss at the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.
"Kaapo is a young dynamic forward who brings skill and offense to our club," Francis said. "We're excited to have him join us."
Borgen, 27, has a goal and an assist in 33 games this season while averaging 15:12 of ice time. Selected in the fourth round (No. 92) of the 2015 Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Borgen played 14 games over two seasons for the Sabres before he was claimed by Seattle in the 2021 Expansion Draft, where he had 55 points (nine goals, 46 assists) in 233 games.
"I also want to thank Will for everything he's done for our francise," Francis said. "As an original member of the Kraken, we wish him all the best in New York."
The Rangers also recalled center Matt Rempe from Hartford of the American Hockey League and assigned defenseman Victor Mancini to the AHL team. Mancini has played in 15 games for New York with five points (one goal, four assists), while Rempe has appeared in four games for the Rangers, averaging 6:26 of ice time.
The Rangers (15-15-1) sit in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division having lost five of six and are 3-11-0 in their past 14 games after winning the Presidents’ Trophy as the top team in the NHL during the 2023-2024 regular season. They conclude a three-game road trip at the Dallas Stars on Friday.
The Kraken (15-16-2) lost 3-0 to the Ottawa Senators Tuesday and are in sixth place in the Pacific Division. They travel to play the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

Re: It's a great day for hockey 2024-2025
* Brady Tkachuk, who will be featured in the second season of FACEOFF: Inside the NHL, tallied the overtime goal as the Senators stretched their season-high winning streak to five games. Tkachuk’s goal was scored after his father, Keith, joined *NHL Coast to Coast* on Thursday.
* William Karlsson helped the Golden Knights clip the Canucks in a game that lasted just two hours and 15 minutes, which marked one of the quickest contests this season.
* William Nylander and Rasmus Dahlin, who are set to represent Sweden alongside Karlsson at the 4 Nation Face-Off, meet for the final time before the tournament when the Maple Leafs visit the Sabres on ESPN+ tonight.
Tkachuk tallies overtime winner as Senators secure FIFTH STRAIGHT VICTORY
Brady Tkachuk tallied his franchise-record 10th career overtime goal as the Senators (17-13-2, 36 points) edged the Flames and maintained their hold on the Eastern Conference’s final Wild Card spot. Linus Ullmark (29 saves) logged an assist on the overtime winner and improved to 7-0-0 in his last seven appearances dating to Dec. 5 (0.99 GAA, .967 SV%, 2 SO).
* Prime Video announced it has greenlit a second season of the sports docuseries FACEOFF: Inside the NHL, which will deliver unprecedented access to more of the League's elite players including Tkachuk. Click here to read more.
More highlights from 107-year anniversary of NHL’s first games
The latest edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates featured more notes from Thursday, which marked the 107-year anniversary of the first games in League history on Dec. 19, 1917. Some highlights include:
* Cale Makar (9-31—40 in 34 GP) became the first defenseman to reach the 40-point mark this season and Mackenzie Blackwood (32 saves) earned the victory versus his former team as the Avalanche (19-15-0, 38 points) reclaimed the Western Conference’s final Wild Card spot. The tandem of Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood, who the team has dubbed “The Lumber Yard”, own a combined record of 5-3-0 in eight appearances with Colorado.
* Zach Werenski tallied a goal and Elvis Merzlikins made a season-high 40 stops – including
two highlight-reel saves on **Jack Hughes** – as the Blue Jackets snapped a five-game slide. Werenski (8-9—17 in 10 GP) became the 10th defenseman in the last 15 years (since 2009-10) with a 10-game home point streak and tied the franchise record shared by forwards Oliver Bjorkstrand (10 GP from Feb. 27 to March 29, 2022), Cam Atkinson (10 GP from Oct. 13 to Nov. 21, 2016) and Andrew Cassels (10 GP from Oct. 14 to Nov. 14, 2002).
* Leon Draisaitl (370-530—900 in 751 GP) assisted on all three of the Oilers’ unanswered goals to reach the 900-point milestone and help Edmonton improve to 6-1-0 in its past seven games.
