post videos of you playing
Re: post videos of you playing
stoked to be opening for David Torn this Thursday. Google him if not familiar--super genius guitarist, composer, producer.
This will be my first serious outing playing solo Hindustani slide. I've done a few little things where I've played sort of background stuff as doors open before shows, but this time it's part of the announced show. Gulp! Been doing some serious woodshedding.
The guitar is called a Mohan Veena. Super fun to play. 3 melody strings that you play with the slide, 4 drone strings that you strike as a sort of percussion thing, and 12 sympathetic strings that you don't strike, but that ring along with the melody strings.
Here are a few clips of where I am so far.

Have a very long gig in Wilmington, NC this weekend, so brushing up on some covers to fill in the sets. This is a 72 tele deluxe through a Barber Direct Drive and a mid 70s Fender Vibrolux.

how was the gig '57?
Re: post videos of you playing
Went really well. We had Michael Sokolowski sit in with us on keys. Killer player who's recorded with folks like Dave Matthews, Kimock, Tim Reynolds. About 80% originals, 20% covers. The Kid Charlemagne went really well, too! Only real downside was that the club's AC was broken, so was a freaking sauna.stevus wrote:how was the gig '57?

Sadly, no recordings of our two shows with Sokolowski. It was a long annoying drive for us (3 hours in traffic from the Triangle to Wilmington, 7 for Sokolowski), The club also had recently been burglarized and had all their sound system stolen. They hadn't been able to replace it all, so we had to provide the monitors. After the drive and setup, oh, and the heat, we just didn't have the energy to get a decent recording rig up and running. Next time, hopefully.

another recording of the garage trio
Re: post videos of you playing
Just about finished w my Rick lap steel project. A couple years ago I got this late 50s Model 100 for about $100 on Craigslist. It was apparently the lowest end of the lowest end model--but still has the all important horseshoe pickup. Had my tech redo the wiring, but then I got stuck trying to figure out what to do for a nut. It's a hollow sheet metal body with not slot for the nut, so just wasn't sure how to approach it. Finally ended up using a sawed off bolt, which works just fine! Since I did this vid, I also got a stick-on fingerboard. Eventually also need to replace the tuners.

^ Thanks
She really did appreciate it. Most of that plant life around me died in the frost Sunday so she's happy I memorialized her 'deck garden'.
That s a hybrid of 2 arrangements. One from Beatles for Classical guitar and the middle solo is from a Japanese guy I found on youtube who was kind enough to send me his arrangement.

Did my second gig on solo Mohan Veena a few weekends ago and just got back some video from the venue. Still a little sloppy here and there, but getting there.

Incredibly lovely...really dig it!
So many great videos here...let me throw our group into the fray...
Just picked up a Zoom Q8 the other week...this is a cut from the first night using it at practice...
Re: post videos of you playing
I sat in for an acoustic gig with Free Shrimp (a couple of the guys from Bear's Choice) this past weekend. Was a good time.
